I will say in SF and Oakland the Green Party does have a small presence and they get people elected to local positions. Obviously that's harder to do as you move up the food chain to statewide and national elections.

There are multiple people on this board, on both the left and the right, who have acknowledged either voting third party, writing someone in or just not voting at all during a Presidential election over the past 30 years. It's definitely not the norm but it's not unheard of either.

You’ve railed on Bernie quite a bit. Would you have voted for him?

I'm not sure TBH.

I probably wouldn't know until election day. But then again, I'm just one guy. I do not represent a significant portion of the voters in my state to the point that it could swing the outcome. A very large number of other people would have to sit it out too, which is much less likely to happen.

But I still think third party candidates and voters in general are detrimental to the process overall.

If you have two candidates who share the vast majority of the popular support between the two of them, and a third candidate siphons votes away from one of them, it kinda stinks of unfairness. Especially when we know a 3P candidate could very easily be working with one of the two main candidates and only have entered the race for the sole purpose of doing just that.

If there were FOUR candidates, two of whom would siphon votes away from BOTH of the main candidates, it wouldn't be so bad.
