Moral Marianne Williamson: End The $26 Billion In Subsidies To Fossil Fuel Industry.

You didn't expect them to vote for the worst candidate in a generation to run, did you?

I'd say they were about the same, but Trump was worse. But no, I didn't expect Republicans to either vote for Hillary or not vote at all. I knew Trump was going to win because Republicans care more about identity than issues. This is why Republicans are so obsessed with "the Left."

Hello Celticguy,

Agreeing with other pols does not suggest that she understands the dynamics and realities of these processes.

I think she will use good judgement and rely on good advice of hand chosen and well vetted effective experts, a welcome change in our leadership. She sounds well informed and well advised already.

America is badly in need of true moral leadership. President Trump has shown how divisive and hateful we can become when we abandon our morals.

Badly Needed Moral Leadership: Marianne Williamson: End The $26 Billion In Subsidies To Fossil Fuel Industry. Tax The Rich. Take Care Of People.

"First we need to pass a law—and most likely a constitutional amendment as well—for public funding of federal campaigns. (huge applause) Right now, the influence of corporate money on our governmental policy is the cancer underlying all other cancers. Then, we need a massive infusion of economic opportunity and hope into the lives of average Americans. We will get there by repealing the 2017, $2 trillion dollar tax cut that gave 83 cents of every dollar to the richest Americans and corporations. Then you stop subsidies such as—why did we pay $26 billion in subsidies to fossil fuel companies last year? Martin Luther King said: "If you give it to rich people they call it a subsidy. If you give it to poor people they call it a hand-out." Then, I agree with others that there should be a 3% tax on billionaires' assets and 2% on people with $50 million and more.

You do things like that, Trevor, and you've got some cash on hand. And then we do what we should be doing. We take care of people." (Another huge applause)

Marianne Williamson Is Guest Of Trever Noah
(Start it at 0:36 to skip the Exxon Ad)

Noah says that Williamson's ideas are called dangerous and crazy. She responds:

"It is dangerous and crazy to NOT discuss the corrosive influence of big money on every aspect of our society."

"The average American is woefully under educated about racism in the United States."

"Slaves were promised 40 acres and a mule. They were freed but never got them. It is time to pay up to their qualified descendants. This is a moral issue. We paid between 20 and 22 thousand dollars to every Japanese American interred during World War II. Germany paid billions to Jews who survived the holocaust. It is time for the United States to make amends for our unmet obligations which have taken such a heavy toll on our society."

Noah: "Donald Trump didn't win by talking about the details, the nitty gritty. He won by talking about the idea of America. Is talking about the idea of America what you think people need to hear?"

Williamson: "It's the idea of leadership. It's the idea of what I think we need in a leader. Franklin Roosevelt said the administrative aspect of the office is secondary. He said the primary role of the Presidency is MORAL LEADERSHIP."

Well, THAT's pretty apparent from looking at the lack of moral leadership we have NOW.

ThnX, great info on Marianne.. Makes some great points..

The problem with federal funding is in who is permitted to get it. Do you really think the machine that made the two party system will not ensure it protects it's own ?

She is right that money in politics is the problem though.

Just suppose we eliminated the money from politics ?

Media would publish platforms so people could compare with their own judgement how candidated soeak to their views.
No more tonnage of junk mail.
No more tsunami of ads in every medium.

Yes, it would put a dent in media sales.

No, it would not prevent pols from being purchased any more that federal funding would, just change how the cash flows.

And finally yes, it would require pols kill their machine which can never happen.

Yep, huge problem........

Yup. I get it. And, Libs promote the idea that the fossils come from dinosaurs. They preach that we need to get fuel from
plants
, not realizing that we already do....

I wonder if there are any dems here that are willing to own this?? Was it part of the Dem debates........

Hello Flash,

That may or may not be a good idea, but whatever we do needs to be a part of a larger plan to get the influence of big money out of politics. That is what she is trying to accomplish.

Maybe what needs to be done is revamp that system by adding the provision that no candidate may accept any donations - that they would qualify for funding according to their message and how well it is received by the public.

All that does is change campaign spending to independent spending more than it already is. Rather than give $2700 to a candidate (current limit) I buy ads, billboards, etc. saying vote Democratic or vote Biden. It is unconstitutional for government to tell me I can't spend my money trying to express my views. And this is not limited to the wealthy since millions of Americans giving $5 or $10 can achieve the same result.

When both candidates used to take the federal grant for the general election and limited their spending and prohibited any private contributions, Americans were just as likely to say money was buying the election and the candidates were being "bought." The public funding accomplished nothing.

I don't think Maryanne knows the difference between a subsidy and a tax deduction.

You missed the point. If dims were picky they never would have nominated the worst candidate ever to run for president.

It was her turn........ Like the GOP & Bob Dole.......

Not like she had the highest negatives of all time, he won the election.....

Consider Eric Cantor...
No marketable skills, straight into politics. Get booted for paying too much attention to his political career and not his constituants. But he got welcomed into a cushy job.
They all do.
Add term limits and they will too.
One term and you get the LIFETIME benefits but its the "thank you" jobs that they will be happy to take
.

So sad & so true.........

This ought to be a wake-up call for the ignorant fools that think you provide a reliable electricity supply without fossil fuels. I have been telling people for years that this would be the result. This happened in Summer when demand is far less, it's time to put the the kiddies in their playpens and let the adults take charge.

Hello Stretch,

The above post is a diversion. Whataboutism. It is hung up on semantics.

But I guess the come-on title was partly to blame. The thread is not really about the fossil fuel industry. The key word is the first word.

It is about morality.

Where do you think the military gets it's fuel? Government will ALWAYS subsidize strategic industries. Remember when obama bailed out the auto industry? That was kind of a subsidy. Why did he do that?...well, that's a bad example. There really wasn't a reason to bail them out, except detroit is a democrat shithole. Never mind

The oil industry does not receive any federal subsidies you fucking retard.

If she did, she lied, since it's in her own books.

I actually never heard of her before the first debate & prob in a few weeks will have forgotten all about her..

I have a friend that is just like her, even looks like her, I like her a lot, but she shouldn't be running anything bigger than a classroom of kids..
