Pursuant to law, Congress asks IRS Director for 6 years of Trumps tax returns. . .

Here is a good analysis that Jarod won't like:

Even if a congressional committee requests President Trump’s tax returns from the IRS, President Trump may have a constitutional defense to disclosure. That is, although Section 6103(f) is phrased in absolute terms — it allows tax committees and the JCT Chief of Staff to obtain tax return information, without qualification — any congressional action, including requests for information, must come within the scope of legislative powers granted by Article I of the Constitution. And a request for President Trump’s tax returns, if made for purely political purposes, may exceed legislative powers.

As the Supreme Court explained in Watkins v. United States, “there is no congressional power to expose for the sake of exposure.” Rather, if Congress wants to collect information from the executive branch or other outsiders, it must do so in connection with its legislative power. That is, a Congressional attempt to investigate an official or request information from him is valid only to the extent it serves proper legislative purposes.*** Congress cannot simply engage in “a fruitless investigation into the personal affairs of individuals.” Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 195 (1880). Thus, for example, it seems unlikely that Congress could properly request the tax returns of all civil rights leaders solely for the purpose of harassing them, even if there were potential non-discriminatory reasons for making those requests.

Is that really the standard under which you wish to live.

I would suspect that before Trump 99% of the US population was unaware of this “law”. I know I was and I am 100% confident that you were too but suspect you will lie about it

It would be interesting to know how many times any Congress has utilized this power. Don’t you?

Really? That is a very low standard; something you would expect in a shit hole like Zimbabwe. So tell me; the Chairman of a House Committee is perfectly within his jurisdiction to investigate a President just because he is not of the same political party? Or perhaps because he doesn't like the President? Maybe it is because he thinks a SC report didn't tell him what he wanted to hear?

So you are of the mistaken opinion that the House can investigate for political purposes? How do you arrive at such moronic conclusions? Do you believe we live in a shit hole like Zimbabwe?

Apparently that IS what you are saying in the "yes" answer snowflake. Make up your mind; should Congress be engaged in political fishing expeditions? If not, then why would you support the one Cummings is engaged in?

What is the relevant reason that Congress has for doing this other than “they can”

Set aside the fact that you think they are following the law. Why do it?

What is their reason?

To ensure the president is not compromised in his dealings with foreign adversaries.

Apparently, Brad doesn't like reality or facts.

No he doesn't.

The blog also mentions that Trump likely has another defense due to comments from Dems that they want the returns regardless, IOW, just for political animosity.

I predict they will never see them.

To ensure the president is not compromised in his dealings with foreign adversaries.

Horse pucky. They want them because they hate Trump. Old tax returns won't prove anything regarding that you fake lawyer.

What did you think of that analysis?

To ensure the president is not compromised in his dealings with foreign adversaries.

So it is the House Ways and Means committee to investigate espionage? When?

Was Dianne Feinstein compromised when she had a Chinese spy as her chauffeur for years? Why no investigation into her dealings? We should demand to see her tax returns.

Other presidents were not forced to give their taxes to Congress, because each and every candidate released them when they ran. Just one did not. That is why Trump is treated differently. If he did as he said he was going to do and released his taxes, this would not be a problem. Trump made it into one by lying about it and then hiding them. It would make one think he has something to hide ,wouldn't it?

Thanks, great research.

President Trump would probably have released his tax returns if the witch hunt by the Democrats had not happened.

I wouldn't blame him if he never releases them.
