Let's take a scientific study. We'll put names in a hat and make a random pick. OK. First we fill the hat with idiots, then we close our eyes and make a pick. First up ... Truth Detector. Second pick ... Bigdog. Third ... (wow, what a surprise) CFM. Now, we let these characters start a Country. President, Senators, Governors, Mayors, Dog Catchers, ... they all are chosen on who gets the fewest votes. Now, because these people are idiots, it doesn't just stop there. Laws ... laws are passed on the fewest votes. Like in this Country, aptly called United Idiots of Planet Earth, the traffic lights are 'Red means Go' and 'Green means Stop' ... because like everything else here in Idiot World, it's all based on what gets the fewest votes.

Trump will be challenged in the primaries. There's already Bill Weld and I fully expect Romney to run. But if it comes down to, say, Kamala Harris and Trump I suspect moderate republicans have to make a decision also unless they vote third party, like I've done since 2000. And when it comes down to it most moderate repubs will vote for Trump in the privacy of the booth but will not admit it to pollsters or anybody else (IMHO).

Then you don't understand the purpose of the electoral college to begin with. The idea was to prevent the large population centers from dominating the electoral process and electing candidates that only cater to needs of the large population centers. If you can't understand the purpose of it, then you are in no position to debate the effectiveness of the electoral college.
