It is understandable that would be said about Obama around the time of the election results. Obama was incredibly popular when he was elected. His ratings were very high, much higher than Trump's. He only began to lose popularity when he stepped on the third rail of politics, the health care reform debate. That energized the TEA party and blew new life into the ashes of the Republican Party. Problem is, the entire resurrection of the Republican party has been built on hatred of Obama, hatred of liberals, hatred of socialism, hatred of government, hatred of the poor, blaming the poor for their own condition, hatred of Muslims, hatred of political correctness, hatred of caring for people unlike you, hatred of compromise, hatred of main stream real news media, and hatred of immigrants. It's a self-defeating exclusionary platform which only appeals to a diminishing demographic. Trump can literally hold all the rallies he wants, he is not going to increase his popularity above the 35-45% range he is stuck in. He only appeals to his base, which is not growing.

Obama was not popular with America, just the Left Coast Liberals. The Left's disdain for the Heartland and Rust Belt tells a different story.
 
Political parties are affected by attrition. Many times, they can only blame themselves for their own demise!

Democrats experienced that when they pushed for a National Healthcare system that was unpopular with a large faction of their political adversaries.

But regardless, the Democrats stayed the course, and took that gamble head on, because of the necessity for it.

Unpopular ideas is what led to the discovery of our nation in the first place. Only a few brave souls decided to sail out into uncharted waters to see what was there, and very few Kings and Queens financed it!

And, even though the Democrats, ended up losing both houses of Congress over their decision to stay the course, it was a risk that actually turned out in the end, to be a smart decision.

Because now, the attrition is affecting the Republican party, who all of a sudden, is now campaigning on all of the positive things that the National Healthcare System provided, such as more people having Healthcare insurance, and stopping insurance companies from denying insurance to people for having per-existing health conditions, and throwing people off of their insurance the first time they try and use it, etc., etc., and etc.

But because the Republicans only talk about how they can improve our Healthcare issues, they never actually do anything about it, and behind the scenes are proven to do everything they can, to do away with our National Healthcare system, and without offering an alternative of their very own.

The Democrats are back, and we intend to make Heathcare and Heathcare Insurance Great Again!
