Born in 1955 and raised in the south, saw it all go down. 3 fucking black-n-white channels, but journalism was still alive and the public was informed - or could be if they were paying heed. The dogs, the fire hoses, the head cracking, the national guard mowing down college students, the sheer thuggery of the power of the state aimed against the people, COINTELLPRO, body bags coming back from war, citizens politically active in the streets.
Can't have the public involved politically now can we, let's turn the media over to concentrated corporate wealth and power, let's squeeze the public economically, let's redivide the masses along racial and economic lines and pit them against one another. Same as it ever was; lest the unsubstantial people understand where their power lies.
