poll:who was best Pres in your lifetime

Nah - that's not true. The economy was spiraling downward - businesses were afraid to hire, investors were afraid to invest. Without some kind of stimulus, that would have continued.

Very true. The economy had already pretty much hit bottom. Doing NOTHING would have been better than burying us in ten trillion dollars of debt.

Obama declared that he was inheriting a mess and ran on hope and change. All we got was more debt, him blaming Bush for eight years of malaise and him further dividing the nation along racial lines.

Businesses & investors wouldn't have suddenly gained confidence with the market losing billions every week.

Businesses never gained any confidence which is why job and wage growth were anemic and nearly non-existent other than massive amounts of part time low wage jobs, and the only reason you had stock market investment was because the Fed was giving away free money with QE.

That stimulus plan turned the tide.

There was no tide. It was a ripple. The tide is just beginning.

I know it's not an easy thing to admit, but it saved the economy - after Bush crashed it.

Bush didn't crash anything. You cannot name ONE policy Bush endorsed that was the cause of it. The mortgage collapse was entirely of a Democrat invention by demanding that banks lower their standards based on race hustling.

Watch the video when the Republican Congress tried to reign the stupidity in and Democrats did NOTHING but insult the Republicans as racists and impugn the regulator trying to warn them of the impending collapse.

Obama only looked bad to you because you were eagerly swallowing all of the flood of lies about him coming from the right-wing lie machine. Much like you swallow all of the lies coming from Trump and the present lie machine.

Obama looked bad to us because he hated America, was an inexperienced Marxist leaning putz who admitted he didn't have the resume, wanted to turn us into a third world shit hole and ran up $10 trillion of wasteful debt which will take us decades to pay back.

sorry, but I consider all the presidents who won 49 out of 50 states to be great presidents, regardless of what some idiot from Ohio thinks of their record about anything........

Yes well if popularity makes you great then have at it. Personally my values aren’t that shallow and what you actually accomplish matters to me.

Why doesn't anybody mention Iran/Contra affair when discussing Reagan. That was his albatross. What a freaking stupid thing to. The worst thing a president can do besides start a war is misappropriate funds. He broke the trust of the American people.
I voted for Reagan twice and my girlfriend at the time who was a liberal lambasted me for it. After Iran/Contra, I had to admit that she was right.

meh......it was a dispute over the powers of the executive and congressional branches........Congress was wrong about communism, Reagan was wrong about who the courts would back.....

Well I would have to say define “best”. Give me some objective criteria.

Failing that it’s a popularity contest and Reagan, by objective measures, was inarguably the most popular President of the last 57 years.

In terms of who implemented policies and laws that have withstood the test of time and benefited the nation as a whole and improved the lives of the most Americans and even with the stain of Vietnam I’d go with LBJ.

LBJ was a corrupt lying asshole. But I cannot be surprised you liked him despite the fact that Democrats lied us into the Vietnam War.

Bush was incredibly irresponsible fiscally. Signing bloated spending bills, costly unnecessary wars, his VP saying that deficit spending didn't matter - if our fiscal house was in order, we would have had a downturn, not a crash.

point being, that the majority of Americans......probably the biggest majority ever to support a president who wasn't George Washington.....disagreed with you wholeheartedly........

and don't tell me your values aren't shallow.......you live in Ohio.......

Naturally it would be Obama because he was the best President of my lifetime (39 years).

:lolup:A leftist wallowing in denial. :rofl2:

Halfway through his 2 terms.

Presidential legacies & successes are generally gauged well after they leave office.

In some areas certainly but there is no arguing he was the most significant US Political figure of the last quarter of the 20th Century.

The irony there is if you told someone that in 1975 they would have laughed at you until they peed themselves and would have questioned your sanity. Until around 1978 Reagan was the biggest joke in American politics. That’s not partisan sniping either. That’s a cold hard fact. No one took Reagan seriously until around 1978.
Believe me, they did, I was in the minority. It got me ready for the treatment I got protesting the Iraq war, another time I was thought to be insane.

Reagan was better than anyone at perception & building the morale of the country - and that's no small thing. He made people believe again...the whole "shining city on the hill" thing. He was great at that.

He was just terrible at almost every other aspect,

Whats an "other aspect"? Could you be a little more specific. What was "terrible?"

and his biggest "accomplishment" - ending the Cold War - was inevitable no matter who was Prez because the Soviets had been collapsing from within for over a decade.

This is nothing more than speculative baloney. Reagan had called the Soviet Union's bluff and ramped up our defense spending and argued for a space based defense shield while calling for the Soviets to tear down the Berlin wall and wall around eastern Europe.

The Soviets could no longer keep up and were buried in debt trying to prop up their acolytes throughout the world who had similar false Marxist based economies.

How can anyone with TDS rant about others hatred? The hatred for Trump from the left has no equal.

Why did you hate Obama? Because he tried to get you health insurance, or because his election was basically a repudiation of Bush, who you put all your stock and faith in as you defended his terrible Presidency and policies?

You’re conflating popularity with accomplishments. You’re also wrong on his record of economic growth. Kennedy and Clinton averaged greater economic growth by GDP than Reagan and LBJ blows Reagan out of the water. Reagan did slightly better than Jimmy Carter by a few tenths of a percentage point.

Unlike you I came of age under Reagan and the Reagan economy may have been great for the investor class but for working class people and young people coming out of college it blew chunks as both job growth and wages were still stagnant and didn’t really start to grow until around 1992 when the economy began to take off.

That's a massive pile of leftist baloney. Much like Watergate was. Your own chart has only two Presidents doing better than Reagan and Reagan had to work with a Democratic Congress ruled by liars and cheats led by Tipsy O'Niel.

I love this revisionist leftist BS though; liberals can never stop lying about things because their ideology is built on lies.

And the Soviet Union didn't collapse until after Reagan left office.

Berlin Wall didn't come down until after Reagan left office.

So why is Reagan getting credit for winning anything?

What planet are you on dude? Planet liar?

The fall of the Berlin Wall began on November 9, 1989 marking the start of the German Reunificaion.

Reagan left office on January 20, 1989
