Michelle Obama: "For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of my country."

Well that was a stupid thing for her to day. She could have said "I am especially proud" or "really proud" or "super duper proud" but "for the first time in her life" was just plain fucking stoopid.

Hey we agree... Obama would do well for himself to say it was a goof... Like when he 'hit the wrong button' six times as a legislator.

I guess you read the OP and none of the follow up response. Why am I not surprised.

I was wrong about this. My apologies.

The source where I first found this referenced, quoted Obama as i indicated in my title. They also included a link to the article, where the quote was given correctly, including the word "really".

I failed to check the original article carefully. I merely glanced at it, and assumed it was identical.

I will be sure to check the original source carefully 9in the future, so I will not make the same mistake again.

I apologize for my screwup.

ON EDIT:

I just went back to the original article, and found that the word "really" is in it now. However, I did a direct copy/paste of the article when I first posted the article, with no changes, as I always do. The word "really" was not in the original article at the time, and my quote of the source was 100% accurate.

Looks like the original author, Sasha Issenberg of www.boston.com, changed his/her "quote" some time after posting his/her article the first time, inserting the word "really" at a later time.

I retract my apology for "My mistake". I quoted the article AND the title accurately, as of the time it was posted.

I apologize instead, for using an unreliable source, Sasha Issenberg. THAT will not happen again.

An internet search shows a number of people giving the original quote without the word "really", as I did, and referencing the same article I referenced. These include the posters at DemocraticUnderground.com: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4646957 . While they are the quintessential smear merchants, I doubt they deliberately fabricated this one.

However, I will continue to copy/past exactly accurate quotes from articles, and list their authors, as I did this time and have always done.

Personally, I love this kind of desperation from the right. Their pain brings me amazing joy.

People with brains clearly understand the statement by Ms. Obama and uinderstand the context and meaning of what she said.

As an African-American, I don't think I've evr been prouder of America myself. The soon-to-be election of Obama as the POTUS isn't because of legislation or Acts, but is a demonstration of a genuinely new understanding of equality by a great many Americans.

Others will understand this signals a new beginning for America and presents a different face of America to a world we cannot live without .. most especially coming on the heels of the disaster of conservative/republican/right-wing "leadership."

The unintellectual will swim around in the toliet looking for any turd they can grab onto.

America has gotten smarter than this .. which makes me very proud.

it was a gaff and they will admitt it
She would have been better recieved saying this is the proudest I've been, which is what I think she meant.

ps there's a long list of dems, moderates, and non bible thumping repubs that haven't been really proud of the country for quit a while.

As a white woman I feel prouder of my country than I have in a long time.

I am so happy to see my sons face as he beems with pride in America for being the country that would vote a black man into the presidency. I think it is the most hopeful momment I have had in my entire life and I know it is for him also.

Fox News has the original video up. Michelle Obama did not use the word "really". The original quote is accurate.

However, she did begin to use a word that seemed to start with R, then seemed to cut herself off, and continue with the rest of the line. It came out, "For the first time in my adult life, I'm ri__ proud of my country."

Maybe she meant to say "really". Why did she cut off her own word, if that's what it was? But the fact is, she didn't say, "For the first time in my adult life, I'm really proud of my country".

She was not misquoted... except by people who claim she DID say "really proud".

"Really proud" was probably the written line that she was supposed to say and was released in the transcript.

I'll openly admit that I have no particular pride in our country.

She obviously didn't mean it that way though and to pretend that she's hated the country until just now is as stupid as her phrasing.

I don't think what she stated was stupid. Yes, putting the "really" in there would have avoided the idiocy that has followed. But it was not necessary. To be "Proud" of the country means something different to each of us. It is entirely subjective. She seemed happy that Americans are finally open to the idea of a black President. Maybe even that the choices for the Dems were a black President or a female President. Both big steps.

You know what? I just thought about this. Of Course Obama's wife would say something like this. She's a WOMAN!

She obviously says "really." Its right there.

Adverb
4. used as intensifiers; 'real' is sometimes used informally for 'really'; 'rattling' is informal; "she was very gifted"; "he played very well"; "a really enjoyable evening"; "I'm real sorry about it"; "a rattling good yarn" [syn: very]
