Make no mistake: yesterday was all about Trump

The liberals are fired up in a way they were not in 16, they did not think Bone Spur would win. Now that he is president, they/we are fired up and a bigger percentage are going to the polls. Rumppers were fired up in 16 and will likely remain so... but their numbers even when fired up are not enough to beat a fired liberal electorate. Remember Bone Spur did not get a majority of the votes even when his people were more fired up than the liberals.

He got enough votes to keep Crooked Hillary out of power, Brad. That's all I care about, and it's all that matters to me.

Don't make predictions. Be like little Thingy and only come out crowing after the battle is over.

I steer clear of making precise predictions lol.

But I stand by my broad ones. The main ones [which I’ve stated many times over the past year] are that the economy will be the biggest factor in the long term and that democrats need a new message to become something besides a regional party.

Nothing that happened yesterday changes any of that. Democrats need to move past identity politics to get the Rust Belt and working class back. And if the republicans go back to establishment business as usual—-all bets are off. That’s the one thing that will allow the democrats to go back to tribal politics and win. And win bigly, not just in elections here and there.

I stand behind that prediction.

finally, a reasonable post, worthy of response outside of the mud sling.

So lets take what you say as accurate, winning elections for democrats in moving forward is about getting people to vote differently than they did in the 2016 election. Moving some of the 306 electoral votes into the blue column. Identity politics are pretty dug in right now. Not good for the Democrats.
If the economy is chugging along at the pace it is now it will be impossible to argue for change. Which is where the democrats find themselves at present, forced to go with identity politics, class warfare. And it is so obvious. Too obvious.
Other than that the Democrats need the economy, the country and our success to go bad. That's just fact.
UNLESS
they were smart, they would get on board with Trump and share in this success, be able to say they cooperated and are at least partly responsible, mix in a little identity politics to show a contrast. Then MAYBE they have a chance.
Otherwise, to the 306 electoral votes it seems the Democrats are trying , hoping that we go backwards so they can claim they have a better way.

It's not going to work, dear God at least admit that, then we have a base to have conversation

Liberals weren't fired up in 2016 in part because it was inconceivable that someone like Trump could win. People just couldn't believe that such a brazenly corrupt conman could beat anyone in a one-on-one contest. It was easy to hate Hillary and be secure that Trump could never win. How'd that work out? Not so good. Trump's victory depended on making voters unenthusiastic about Hillary, rather than making himself look like an appealing candidate. And while the nationalists were enthusiastic, they couldn't beat Hillary on their own. It was all about bringing Hillary down to Trump's level. And once there, it was easy to choose Trump for many people. It's quite an effective strategy, deplorable as it was.

Hillary made many mistakes, and was a poor candidate (IMO), but by any metric she was infinitely beyond Trump in terms of being fit for office. Unfortunately, she would have spent her entire administration being hounded by largely bogus investigations. Even though if Republicans worked with her, they'd actually get 98% of what they wanted (as Bohener did with Obama when he worked with him).

That said, the Trump fever is starting to break, and the future belongs to Democrats. Until they fuck up, which they inevitably will. Such is the political cycle.

The economy, the economy, the economy. Everything else being equal and there’s no wars, major terrorist attacks or etc, the Trump movement will live or die with the economy. And maybe to a lessor extent on immigration.

Democrats can still win, regionally, in places like NJ or VA without changing their message. And last night they did.

That’s good, in a way. They can still maintain their delusions.

What does that have to do with Canada? :dunno:

Did you see how Trump was honored in China?

What a contrast from the reception that subservient bowing and scraping Obama got.

Obama was so disrespected in China, he had to deplane from the back stairs of AF1 like a bag of ice. :rofl2:

NORTHERN Virginia is as loony tune left as it gets-same politics as DC and Maryland suburbs.

I do agree with you on the future-millenials are young and dumb, and have no concept of the
pursuit of happiness, instead looking for government guarantees

Millenials are a beautiful generation...far removed from the subtle racism, misogyny and bigotry that you and your disgusting ilk spew on a daily basis.
Cultural dinosaurs like yourself are dying off and the world will be a better place.

actually they did change their message, without question Northam tracked to the right.
And let's not get all silly over a special election, on an off year that replaced a democrat with a Democrat, in a state that voted for Hillary in 2016, seriously, think about that for a second.
to celebrate that in anything except what it actually was is a sign of desperation, don't be whittled down to that.

The democrats only hope in 2018 is for the country to fail, hardly the side I would like to be on.

I am sorry shitstain but obviously people care about other things than just the economy.
Fuckung moron, if you were even partially correct last night never would have happened.

What is it like to go through life never knowing anything?

Boy, 70,000 votes in 3 rust belt states really have you guys feeling like you own the world.

I never root for the economy to tank. I hope it's booming next year, and in '20. I don't think it will make much difference - people outside of the 35% now see that the emperor has no clothes. They don't want to be embarrassed about American leadership anymore, and we're less than a year in.

Indies are no longer with Trump. Deal w/ that one for awhile.

The approval ratings don't lie - Trump is an extremely unpopular President, and he cost his party dearly yesterday.

What we're seeing today is just spin. By reading some of the posts here, I would think that VA was NYC, and solid left-wing territory. Many who were predicting a Gilly win or nailbiter are now playing it off and trying to say that he shouldn't have distanced himself from Trump and that it's no big deal that "a Dem won a Dem state".

The margin ended up bigger than even the most optimistic lefty would have guessed, and the other races added everything up to a much more ominous signal for the GOP. And if you read into some of the exit polls, the future looks even worse - voters under 45 went overwhelmingly Democrat.

Careful what you wish for: you wanted Trump to wreck the party, and he's doing it.

Guess there was no Russian collusion yesterday. :awesome:

No it isn't. Trump's an embarrassment, and no one outside of the hardcores likes the constant saber rattling & general reckless disposition.

I think Dems gain big regardless, and hope the economy is doing great.

you're missing what's behind the millennials, kids that are seeing the race baiting from the left, the cheating, entitled elite whining when they lose.
I say the "millennials may get squeezed out by your so called "cultural dinosaurs" and what's coming behind them. Mellinials by and large are too lazy to sustain a conversation much less a political movement.

you have a looong 8 years ahead of you, but please look back on them as a learning experience
