Women don't know how to use tools and fix things, survive by cooking

I've been waiting since the late 70's.
I have to agree there. As a science major in college the ratio of men to women was ridiculous. Though my undergrad school was majority female it was rare that there was any women in my classes. There wasn’t a single female in my chemistry and physics classes and damned few in my biology classes. They were almost as rare as a jock in a science class but close.

In grad school my class had around 120 students with less than 20 women. More than 6 to 1 male.

So when I started college they began a serious drive to encourage women to enter the STEM fields at all levels of education from primary to graduate school. That was over thirty years ago and that initiative to encourage women to enter STEM fields continue yet the disparity between men and women remains virtually the same.

On an anecdotal level virtually every college bound young lady I have encouraged to challenge themselves in a STEM field I have been met not with apathy or ignorance but outright hostility for mentioning it.

So it’s a real puzzler. Why are so many bright and able young women simply not interested in pursuing science and technology fields? Is it nature or nurture?

My son just married a gal who graduated with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. Her IQ is as high or higher than his and they both work at an R&T branch of a major manufacturer. Open the hood of a car though and she's clueless, while my son will be pulling out his oscilloscope to diagnose an ignition problem she'll be rolling her eyes and shrugging her shoulders.

At work, he's become known as the troubleshooter be it chemical, electrical or mechanical.

Guys fix stuff.

Try opening your eyes when you go out.
Actually despite Right’s misogynistic messaging he’s correct. We still have a large disparity of men vs women in technical and science fields. The numbers are virtually unchanged since the 70’s despite a huge effort to encourage women to enter those fields. For whatever the reason women still do not seem to be interested in these fields.

It also says "survive by cooking". Apparently I write well above the level that you and the skank are used to.

Which means nothing, seeing as how the entirety of the title suggests that you believe women get by on cooking because they don't have any other useful skills. There's people on this site who agree with that sentiment, so, it didn't strike me as unusual to see it plastered on a thread title.

How am I being misogynist?

...and the title leads to the OP with a quote about these two specific women. Sorry if you're unable to follow that...

it's not fucking hard to understand. different sexes have different interests.

women don't want to sit at a comp and code all day with a bunch of nerds.

throughout all of history, men have tinkered and toyed and built things, regardless if it were popular. Guys would build ham radios, and certinally not because it was cool. Guys would take AV club, again, not because it was "cool" or socially encouraged. We like solitary activities where we can figure shit out, put stuff together, not for outside praise but because honestly we are probably all a bit autistic.

additionally they could have been hostile cause, well - apparently they didn't send their best recruiters. A guy like this: :derpmott: isn't getting them excited for the career of tomorrow

Your thread title is incoherent. Learn from this, and do better in the future.

He's a successful licensed engineer, you're a low-grade government employee with poor prospects of advancement, and you're going to lecture him because your reading skills were honed on Legend of Zelda?

:rofl2:

mostly for the reason they have been discouraged. The nuns told us not to bother, girls aren’t good at math or science. I think as more women are encouraged, which is what is being done now, we will see a change. My woman surgeon still complains of the “good old boys” club. There are still walls that need to be broken down.

Well I have seen change in that since the 80’s there has been a huge effort to encourage women to enter STEM fields starting in elementary school and yet despite that very real effort women just do not seem interested.
