12% have power, over a million w/ no running water

Puerto Rico mayor: for US response to crisis Trump deserves 'a 10' – out of 100

Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of the Puerto Rican capital San Juan, responded on Friday to Donald Trump’s claim that his administration deserved a grade of 10/10 for his handling of the crisis in the hurricane-hit US territory.

“If it’s a 10 out of a scale of 100, of course,” she said. “It’s still a failing grade.”

At a press conference with the governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, on Thursday, Trump was asked to rate the federal government’s relief effort in the territory – where hundreds of thousands of Americans are still without running water and more than 80% of electricity consumers remain without power – on a scale of one to 10.

“I give ourselves a 10,” the president replied.

Trump has faced consistent criticism for his response to the crisis, including from Cruz, who accused the administration of not doing enough. He visited the island earlier this month and told local officials that they should be “proud” of how few people had died from the storm compared with the death toll during Hurricane Katrina, which he described as a “real catastrophe”.

During that visit, he also tossed paper towels into a crowd that had gathered to see him near San Juan.

Cruz added: “I think the president lives in an alternative reality world, that only he believes the things he is saying. But certainly people are still without electricity. We knew it was going to take a long time for that to happen. But the basic services are still not there yet, and there doesn’t seem to be any [sign] of how it’s supposed to go.”

Trump’s rosy assessment of the Puerto Rico relief effort does not reflect public opinion polls, which show a majority of Americans believe the administration is not doing enough to restore electricity and deliver food and water to the island.

The Puerto Ricans opinion means nothing only the facts matter and this administrations response has been exponentially better than the past two administrations which is why there has been significantly less loss of life.

I know you're a complete idiot but take it as gospel that your messiah trump didn't wave his hand over the hurricane to prevent more loss of life.

Ya the powerlines were down in Fl. too the local authorities and utility companies not the Federal Government put them back up and hired subcontractors to clear debris, the Puerto Rican local authorities are a shit show of leftist corruption and incompetence.
I'm in Florida. debris was mostly cleaned up by us locals - i waited 3 weeks and go tired of it on my curb.

But his was a CAT 1 -not a CAT 5.. a CAT 5 on an island no less! big difference

Seemingly about half the rightwing posters here are deplorable racist losers, while their allies and buddies in most of the other half of this board's rightwing contingent offer them safe harbor and consent by their resolute and persistent silence.

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is a hack who is going to run for governor.
Notice the Dem governor hasn't blasted Trump like this politico.

Those links are dated - the one i looked at carefully has much lower support from Hispanics.
It's not surprising being without power for weeks brings Trumps rating down - especaillyy from Hispanics.

I've seen all kinds of stuff, but there is no commerce - only ATMs and no credit cards.
You can't just drop pallets of supplies in either - they can land in dangerous areas.

There are military working to get supplies to remote locations, like the west -but they are slow because they are house to house, and need coordination.

for all the complaints I see very little in the way of doable alternatives that haven;t already been tried

you are making this way more difficult then need be,,I read your links, they are worth discussing ( the one about the ex-military coordinating house to house).
It shows expertise as the guy went thru Katrina, and coordination on social media.

I'm not sure how possible that is without internet, but hey -it's good to see that

You mean this guy? Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré

There is absolutely no question that the Jones Act should have been waived just as it was waived for Florida and Texas.

The Jones act was waived. that was never the problem, plenty of supplies GOT THERE.
The problem has always been distribution..

This guy is a joke
retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, who commanded the military response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans,
how did that work out?

Also when you hear "Trump hates brown people" you can be sure it's someone who has nothing worthwhile to say

The Anasco Expendables would seem to be a very 21st century tech solution to a timeless logistics problem. There is a food-and-water issue in Puerto Rico, but it’s not entirely a supply shortage: It’s knowing where existing supplies are needed most and how to get them there.

n Anasco right now, each household is allotted six bottles of water and a “snack pack” per day, comprised of two cans of food — Chef Boyardee — plus rice, raisins and crackers. The supplies can be picked up at Anasco’s distribution center. But residents in more remote areas haven’t been able to leave their homes or make it into town for weeks, and have to strech that small allotment till their next run into town. That’s where the Expendables come in.

“Everyday we go into the mountains, it’s dumping rain on us,” Davis said. “Nobody else will go. Landslides are consistent up there.

So far the team has delivered nearly 30 pallets of food and water, relying on a Jeep Wrangler — which recently suffered some severe wear and tear — plus a van or two. Though they’ve accomplished a lot in conjunction with local police, Maddy and Davis are left wondering: where’s the rest of the support?

“I know they’re trying, they are, to get to” the people in need, Maddy said of federal aid workers. “For us to be the first on the ground, to be able to take part in that and relay the information to the Army, I guess it’s pretty amazing, because we’re all a group of veterans.”

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz is a hack

That's where you lost me. Anyone who disagrees with Trump is somehow something nasty.

She may indeed run for governor, and in my opinion she should. But that does not invalidate her thoughts and opinions of the recovery .. an opinion that is shared by the vast majority of Puerto Ricans and 62% of the American people.

62% say Puerto Ricans aren't getting the help they need

Again, anyone who disagrees with the hands-down absolute worst president in American history is somehow "a joke."

Of course Trump hates black and brown people.

This is why these conversations are pointless.

nobody said that.
Contrast the existing governors and this ambitious hack's responses.

You are showing polls (not surprisingly breaking down on party lines) from all America.
Most Americans have no clue what it is to go thru a hurricane...everything STOPS - everything.

I've never been in a CAT 5. on a low lying island. with previous electric infrastructure already below standards
(many homes just used "stringer" lines) strewn all over the place.
with landslides and more flooding even after the hurricane.

It's a scenario from hell

2012 Hurricane Sandy Category 2 156 dead in US

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Sandy

Hurricane Irma 2017 Category 5 88 dead in US

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Irma

Hurricane Maria 2017 Category 5 38 dead in US

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Maria

So according to my math Obama lost more people to a single Category 2 Hurricane than Trump lost in 2 successive Category 5 Hurricanes, so why don't you go fuck yourself nigger?

Where does he live anyway? He's obviously never had any experience of hurricanes.

well I agree with you on that much.
If you are hellbent to say "Trump is a racist" to damn near every situation/policy-
then there really isn't much I can discuss with you otherwise

He's losing it big time!

There is a good possibility that when Trump wins his second term, that BAC will go on a murder rampage in California; but he won't use a firearm, because he's scared of them, and will instead use a huge feather pillow.
