I'm waiting to see the report on how many rounds he "essentially" fired and how many of them were direct hits, instead of ricochets; because I've got a feeling that the percentage between fired and hit is going to "essentially" be lower then it would normally be expected.

But it needs to be taken into account; that once the shooting started, people began scattering, the recoil(s) tend to cause the weapon to travel off target, and when you're talking the length of a football field, it doesn't take much to make the shot go way off target.
Like I had said; I would like to see how many were directly shot, compared to the number of rounds fired.
I'd bet that most were hit by ricochets; which of course doesn't minimize the "essential" threat.

Personally, if I had the choice; I would rather be hit directly, instead of a ricochet.
A ricochet has the ugly factor of the round becoming less cylindrical and thereby causing a bigger wound at impact; even though it has lost speed, now it also probably has sharp edges.
