Aaug 15 2017 Investigators are working to identify and charge protesters who toppled a nearly century-old Confederate statue in front of a North Carolina government building, the sheriff said Tuesday.

Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews issued a statement that investigators are using video footage to identify those responsible for toppling the statue during a rally Monday night.

Law enforcement officers took video throughout the protest but didn't intervene as protesters brought out a ladder, climbed up to attach a rope and then pulled the bronze Confederate soldier from its pedestal. After it fell, some began kicking the statue, while others took photos standing or sitting on it. The protest was in response to violence and a death at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend.

Why are these lefties so hateful towards the confederacy anyway?. Do they actually think the civil war was about freeing slaves?? The idea is not only wrong, it is absurd since.

1. There were 4 UNION states (KY MD DE MO) that were slave states throughout the war. Had a total of 300,000 slaves.

2. There were many UNION generals that were slave owners during the war. Grant himself owned a slave during the war and his wife had a lot of slaves.

I'm sure that these were students from UNC. I hope they get thrown out of the state college system as well.

Good point but i what else could the cops do? They know if they step in and try to stop the rioters, things could get ugly and the media cartels will totally support the rioters.

What is the point of preserving Confederate statues? What is even the purpose of having them?

To be effective one has to pick their battles and fighting to save Confederate statues seems inane

Why can't we just leave them alone? Most are very old. Why is it such a big fricking deal all of a sudden?

Many people think the south was right to secede. As i explained above, the civil war was NOT about slavery. The idea is preposterous.

You do realize i hope, that america was founded on secession. The original 13 colonies seceded from england. Do you oppose that.? THINK

I do not condone taking the statue down as these folks did, I think they should be fined, but I do think they should legally go after these monuments. They belong in museums not on public property.

They are not that old, majority of them were erected half century after the war ended, and if they bother a large segment of the society, why fight to save them, all they do is point out people who fought against the United States

So the rest should pay to maintain a statue because "some people think the south had a right to secede?" Keep in mind these statues "honor" individuals who fought against the Unted States, who killed Americans

And your correct the Civil War wasn't fought over slavery, but after the Emancipation Proclamation it did assume the moral cause of abolishing slavery
 
These statues were erected in the 1920's to let Blacks know white men were still in charge, and watching over you.

It was a scare tactic to intimidate Blacks.

Americans need to stop letting the right wing racist dictate history. They lie about everything.
 
Those who tore down the statues of traitors to America need to be identified and given medals for bravery as great Americans.
They are my heroes...
