Wrath of right falls on Google

The firing of a Google programmer who authored a controversial memo criticizing the company's diversity initiatives has become a cause*célèbre for many on the right.

They see the case of James Damore confirming their suspicions that Silicon Valley suppresses conservative viewpoints and are turning their fire on his former employer.

Damore's internal memo became public when*published by Gizmodo*last Saturday. Titled "Google's Ideological Echo Chamber," it argued that Google's initiatives to close its workforce gender gap were misguided because the disparity was more a result of biological differences between men and women than biased hiring practices or sexism.

Women are underrepresented in professions like coding, Damore argued, in part because they are more susceptible to "neuroticism," leading to higher levels of anxiety and a low tolerance for stress.

The memo sparked a firestorm of controversy, reopening long debates about sexism and diversity in the tech industry. Google fired Damore on Monday.

But conservatives and activists on the right from many stripes have been rallying to Damore's defense

On a tangential note, my impression has always been that sexism and racism attracts men of mediocre and inferior capability. Because mediocre men are most likely to feel threatened about the perceived threat of losing their job to a more capable female or person of color.

And if photos from the rightwing rally in Virginia yesterday are any indication, there are a lot is a lot of buck toothed, knuckle dragging mediocrity in America's right wing!

I stopped using Google a long time ago and not because I thought they were hostile to conservatives.

But, so what if conservatives want to form their own businesses and create a search engine to compete with Google? No business remains dominant forever do they?

Years and years ago, stores like Sears and Roebuck dominated the landscape. Then along came this little company in Arkansas that disrupted the supply chain and sent stores like Sears on a death spiral. Then along came a company called Amazon and disrupted the supply chain even further.

One thing is abundantly clear, EVERY business has a blind spot somewhere. And eventually someone comes along to capitalize on it and disrupt what once was a disrupter.

Relax, nobody wants to make you stop using Google

Google is just another left wing media mouthpiece.

They installed search technology that "suggested" searches that were friendly to Hillary Clinton. Where as other search engines did not have these suggestions while typing in her name.

But another MSM outlet trying to jam leftism down everyone's throat. Not surprised they fired someone over his political beliefs.

The best and brightest minds come from all over the world to work in the Silicon Valley. It is the innovative center of our universe so I would hardly call these people inferior and mediocre. These people also bite heavily Democratic. Yet the Valley is rife with sexism and racism. How do you jibe that?

I should have said typically mediocre, not universally mediocre. But I assume competent native speakers of the English language can detect and interpret connotation and denotation.

Cawacko, regarding the bolded, guess what the conservatives in Silcon Valley are angry about?? That's right...efforts by Google to diversify its work force and address institutional sexism and discrimination.

So you keep asking me "what my side is doing" about it. Do you the irony here?

You think firing a guy for not believing in group think is doing something? Your side dominates the Silicon Valley which has this bro culture.

And it is far too facile an answer, as well as wrong, to say this memo by the google employee breaks down on right and left political lines. Go read some responses from left leaning publications about it

I am not obligated to take his assertion at face value, nor believe it sight unseen.

He might have been forced out of google for being an asshole. Google is not required to hire and maintain assholes. Surprisingly, dudes who talk about how women are inferior at work tend to come across as assholes in more ways than one.

No ones saying you have to agree with what he wrote. Doesn't mean he's wrong though or the core of what he's saying is not worthy of discussion.

And you're from the Bay Area so it should not surprise you that there are many very successful, well educated assholes here. And you go to a place like Google where people from all over the world fight to work at it should surprise you even less that there would be assholes there. If all assholes at google were fired there wouldn't be much of a company left

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the number two Republican in the Senate, said in another tweet that the firing violated Damore's First Amendment rights.



"I am very troubled by @google's treatment of James Damore,"*wrote*Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.). "You shouldn't lose your job for telling the truth!"

And Cypress go read what google employees are saying about this guy. He's gotten a lot of support and many feel he shouldn't have been fired. His personal story has come out and he's not a right winger nor is he anti woman.

You're trying to use this to fit your political narrative as oppose to what the real meaning of what the guy wrote was and how we take the premise to move forward and advance
