The HORRIFIC results of deregulation.

Wrong on all counts. Regulation is a tool that is supposed to be used in the public interest. The question is always, what the right level of regulation and oversight it. That is an honest debate.

Dear idiot; the ride had been inspected by the GOVERNMENT three times in two days...once that morning. The belief that regulations are going to prevent any and all accidents, deaths or loss of limb is a moronic premise that only the most ignorant among can subscribe to. The notion that we can wrap ourselves in a bubble of Government regulation and be safe is moronic.

Back to the premise of this thread; it was a flat out lie and laughably stupid.

My question to you, is why should I trust the far right wing to know what the appropriate level of regulation is?

A better question, and much more intelligent, is why would ANYONE trust the Government to do anything right?

It is a political ideology that, at it's core, believes in unfettered capitalism

This is a lie; what is it about liberals and their propensity to lie?

and has never, ever, proposed or advocated for regulation.....Even as the under-regulated Robber Barons of Wall Street crashed the world economy in 2008.

Another massive lie; you are quite full of them. And you lying leftists wonder why we point at you and laugh.

Do you think we need to deregulate Wall Street,

Who has made, or is making, this argument? Answer: NO ONE.

and that we need less environmental and consumer regulation?

Environmental consumers? WTF is that?

The above is correct; so what is honest about the premise in this moronic thread??? And, which you seem to stupidly believe is "honest"?

It looks like human error or neglect to me, which you're always going to have as a possibility no matter the regulations. I ride amusement park rides (very few fair rides) a lot. My family loves them. I am aware that accidents are always possible with human made mechanical devices. It appears it was inspected that morning. On the short, somebody messed up.

As a licensed engineer I would never ride in a machine like that. First of all, the machines are cheaply made. They are trucked from site to site, assembled and reassembled by low paid employees. They sit around for months outside in the winter. Then they are (maybe) inspected by a state or county employee who probably is unfamiliar with the machine. In order to properly inspect the installation you first have to know how it is anchored to the ground. In order to do that you should know something about the foundation soil conditions- or at least witness the installation of soil augers (to prevent uplift) and monitor depth and torque during installation. Then there's the actual machine itself, with hundreds of moving parts that should take hours or even days to adequately inspect.

If I was asked to inspect a ride like this it would take me at least a day, and the market rate for engineers the company wouldn't hire me.

About 20 years ago I was asked to inspect the installation of a house trailer- a much simpler structure than this. I asked the company for their install manual and got the expected grumblings. "What do you need that for? No one has ever asked us for that before." I finally dug it out of them, read it, and came up with a very short list of additional information that I would need, among these the specifications on the helical anchors that were used. Again I got the usual grumblings, but eventually got the information. The augers that they have been using- in fact the only augers that they had ever used in all their installations- were designed to anchor into coral rock. They were completely inadequate for the soil that we have here, and in fact the soil that exists in most of the country. But, they are cheap and easy to install with rudimentary equipment. I failed that installation. A month later, a second company, same deal. From then on I have been obligated to tell prospective clients that the likelihood of my services being beneficial to them is not very good, so they should look for another engineer. And they do, and these things go up year after year.

If you ever wondered why trailer park disasters seem to always be in that path of tornadoes and other wind storms, now you know.

I take Zap seriously.

Then you like to be foolish. Nothing ZappasTard erupts with should be taken for anything more than whiny leftist partisan sniping. He's uninterested in facts, the truth or reality for that matter.

Sometimes he can be a bit snarky but who can blame him. He lives in Texas. ;).

Sometimes???? :rofl2:

In fact, after re-reading he didn't say anything about Trump being involved in this other than the fact that Trump was for deregulation, which is a true statement. So I'll rephrase my questions...

In fact, he actually did say something about Trump being involved. You must have missed this part of his post: Thank GOD for Trump!

He's for rolling back those regulations and giving business owners a chance to make more money.

Is there any evidence that Trumps policies would lead to this sad incident? Is there any evidence that this was the fault of deregulation?

No; but ZappasTard isn't interested in the truth, facts or honesty. He prefers to engage in pathetic whiny hyper partisan leftist bullshit.

I agree with Right on this one; I wouldn't ride circus rides or have my children ride them. No amount of regulation or inspections is going to make them perfectly safe....you ride at your own risk.

Back to ZappasTard premise; was this a case of a lack of regulations? Answer: NO. But don't tell the leftist retards on this forum that; they aren't interested in facts, the truth or reality.

Another ZappasTard thread fail. He's batting a thousand on this one.

You and I must have read different OPs. What I read Zappa saying is that the guy you voted for, the guy you always leap to defend, lecherous President Pussy Grabber, has stated, it is on public record, that he wants to roll back all manner of regulations for consumer protection, environmental protection, and to undo regulations for the big Wall Street Banks. I did not see him blame Trump for this amusement ride.

BINGO!!

In their defense however, its more important to partisan Trumpkins to attack me and derail the thread than it is to discuss Trump's desire to get rid of regulations that protect the people honestly.

Please, please, please show where LR attacked you, or has attacked anyone, on this board.

He asked you a question. Don't start threads if you don't want people asking questions.

Every thing is on a case by case basis. But yes we can over regulate our economy, over regulate our environment and over regulate our safety.

Why our economy crashed like it did is a different subject but it goes back to our govt housing policy and the Fed as the impetus. And we can go back two decades to watch the Fed and govt bail out wall st so of course wall st was willing to act like it did knowing the moral hazard was gone.

Back around the turn of the century here in Texas, conservatives got it into their heads that the government was too involved in the regulation of prices energy producers charged their customers.

DEREGULATION was the answer, they crowed with great sincerity! Prices will go DOWN as deregulation will bring about a new era of competition!

Except just the opposite happened...

Once they were out from under the government's thumb, prices ROSE by nearly 10% in a single year. And they jumped even higher the year after that.

Where did I say he had?

In fact, both you and he have been a breath of fresh air amidst the incessant petty attacks of IHA, Rightie and Truth Rejector on this thread.

It took him nearly three pages, but even Rightie agrees with me.

Those rides aren't safe and they WON'T BE until we get QUALIFIED inspectors checking them for damage and fatigue.

Nice try, but nowhere did I say that GovCo is the answer. In fact the exact opposite. What a dishonest poster you are.

You were asked specifically what regulations were loosened at the request of ride owners. You failed to back up your OP. Don't hide behind Cypress

That's a massive pile of bullshit; you seem to be quite full of it.

We were promised by Obama that healthcare prices would go down if Government got seriously involved in it; the exact opposite happened and idiots like you cheered.

You get attacked because you're a lying leftist moron on steroids who does the EXACT same thing to those who disagree with your moronic diatribes. Dunce.

Left and Wacko still stupidly believe they can have an intelligent debate with you even though you continually prove them wrong every day.

The reason I SEEM to be quite full of it is because you're just another impotent, partisan dim bulb who can't have an honest discussion with those you disagree with.

I could explain why healthcare prices didn't go down as planned, but you'd only ignore the facts like you always do and once again spew more of your infantile personal attacks.
