Off the grid

i suppose there is some unspoiled public land you can use for that.

Yea, mooseville........ There is less than a million ppl in a place bigger than texass......

You get payed practically to live there, free moose, bear, elk, & road kill is always abundant in season.....

Last I recall he was doing computer tech stuff.

Once the 60's hippies found out how unfair and hard a communist life is, they abandoned the communes and became Yuppies. By now, Eldon is probably a fully fledged silicon Yuppie.

LOL... Wasn't he in Texas??

I know many that joined the Yuppie club, although a bit older....

Many, also, unfortunately never made it that far.... ODed, living on the streets of SF or up in Humboldt growing "off the grid".........

Texas sounds right.

I think your personal experience varies from the general experience. Only a small fraction ODed or left the grid to start growing their own

Why a waterfall??

Waterfall is for hydroelectric. I use that for my electrical needs. The solar is for the water heater. Solar too unreliable for anything else. The waterfall doesn't have to be massive. Just enough to get good flow and good head (no jokes it's a hydro term)

Also have 500 gallon buried propane tank as backup.

Interesting.. You actually have one functioning on a waterfall??

Exactly as you obviously know. I tend to agree with you about Solar Thermal vs PV. It all comes down to storage.

So I looked up "off the grid" ... according to wiki, it just means you don't use public utilities ... that your house is autonomous.

BTW you don't need a lot of water to make hydro work just elevation and consistent flow

A friend of mine had a cabin in the mountains. A well kept the tank full and gravity kept pressure to the sinks, etc. As long as the well worked and/or the tank was full, he had water and pressure.

I call bullshit ...
You don't have any friends...
