Off the grid

You are young.

Start slow. Buy some land. You don't have to build right away. If you can get a a small water fall or year round stream/creek that has good flow that would be ideal. You also want mineral rights and no restrictions. You will have to have it perc tested for septic tank. Also look for good southern exposure for solar. 10-20 acres is ideal and if you can back up to a national forest you know nobody will be around you.

You can get a cheap camper to put there while you wait to build. I would build more than 800-1000 sq feet. Keeps it easier to heat with a wood stove.

Learn how to can. Start simple with spaghetti sauce and work your way up.

What about protein?

What percentage of Republican voters can afford to go off the grid, dispense with economies of scale, give the middle finger to the civilized world and happily exist as an island. Of that .000000001 percent which wish to continuously inbreed? 😄

I have always thought there was a hilarious incongruity concerning wingnuts typing how much they hate the government, on an internet invented by government scientists.

The fact of the matter is almost all wingnuts are completely and utterly dependent on the public commons. Streets, highways, public water and sewage systems, not to mention the wingnuts that partake of medicare, Medicaid, SS cisability, and public education. These facts are just compounded when one recognizes that it is generally red states that get more benefit back from the federal government than they pay in taxes. Only an infinitesimally small and mathematically insignificant portion of the population lives "off the grid".

Do you know what it actually means to live "off the grid?" Nothing you just typed suggests to me that you actually do, as every item mentioned is irrelevant to living "off the grid," and your post has the self-awareness of a Midcan diatribe against liberty.

Now, personally, as I alluded to with my joke about Starbucks, I'm not equipped for living life off the grid...

Hence the thread. Nice added point on the irony of using the government created internet to decry the government.

Op is stupid.

Hippys became Yuppies while rural conservatives continued to hunt and grow their own food.

:palm:

Why a waterfall??

Wonder what happened to him?? Was he joining a commune again or something??

Last I recall he was doing computer tech stuff.

Once the 60's hippies found out how unfair and hard a communist life is, they abandoned the communes and became Yuppies. By now, Eldon is probably a fully fledged silicon Yuppie.

LOL, they can "drive to town~back on the grid" for a few hours to pick up their disability & SS checks, stop by the bank & grocery store & then hit walmart for "more ammo & can goods" just in case...
