Baby Powder Causes Cancer?

I did not know the asbestos part

interesting

but even just the idea that it is particulate matter means it should stay away from your internal parts

Before we digress, let me just state two basic things:

The legal standard of proof is "defective product unreasonably dangerous."

The cases are litigated to a jury of peers with experts on both sides requiring in many states 9 of 12 for civil liability. Federal it is unanimously.

So before you go on a tirade of anecdotal indignity blaming the evil bench or bar or media or EPA or Nixon or whomsoever, requiring me to give counter examples of all the beneficial aspects of tort law, understand these two things. There is a sensible and difficult burden and the jury decides.

So why are they dying of ovarian cancer, when there is every likelihood that they would inhale some of the talc dust? Surely lung cancer or mesothelioma is far more likely. It seems to me to be an incredibly tenuous link at best, which has been exaggerated hugely. Why? As Deep Throat said, "follow the money".

I gave the example of DDT because it has caused a huge number of deaths, many millions as there is no real effective subsitute, and there were no doubt any number of experts willng to declare that it was incredibly dangerous and persistent. Yet we now know that was mostly bullshit, so much so that it is being reintroduced in Africa.

Have you ever heard of mesothelioma? Surely even a brain-dead cretin like you must have come across it?

Protective Capabilities of the Respiratory tract[edit]
Mucus membrane
Within the trachea, bronchi and bronchioles are specialized cells called goblet cells. These cells secrete a substance that forms a sticky and slimy mucus membrane along the air passageways. When harmful particles and agents move with the air, they can get stuck within this mucus membrane.
Mucus is also found in nasal cavity of our nose.
Cilia
Tiny hair-like cell structures found along the cells lining the airways can help carry the pollutants to the pharynx.
The cilia can move the pathogens and harmful substances that are stuck with the mucous up the trachea and eventually are either swallowed into the highly acidic and deadly stomach environment or it can be expelled via spitting.
Hair in Nasal Cavity
Hair in the nostrils can also play a protective role, trapping things like dust.
Alveolar Macrophages
These immune cells found in the alveoli of our lungs function to engulf and digest any harmful agents that they may come across.
Airways Constriction
The air passageways of the lungs contain rings of muscle. When the passageways are irritated by some allergen, these muscles can constrict. Although this makes the airway more narrow and might keep the oxygen out of it, it can also make breathing difficult.
Coughing
Expels all irritants within mucus membrane to the outside .

When did the FDA become aware that baby powder placed in the vagina might cause cancer? Aren't they the ones responsible for implementation of warning labels?
At what point does J&J become responsible for warning customers about this possibility when obviously the FDA had no concern? I say obviously because apparently there was no warning required by the FDA.
Why is J&J being targeted? They are not the only manufacturers of talc powder.

I don't know all the facts but I lean towards thinking that if anyone is responsible it's the FDA.

I wager that there are many containers that preexist the '80s, the time when the largest talc mine in the country stopped mining talc contaminated with asbestos. Long fiber talc is very similar to asbestos with long parallel fibers which could also readily adhere.
Since in powdered form it is also friable it has potential to be a carcinogen imho.
Having done renovations for more than 35 years, asbestos is something I've paid attention to. Isn't it the abrasive nature of the fibers in the lungs that causes cancer after many decades?

In the instance of powder, I don't understand how the fibers make it up the fallopian tubes to the ovaries?

There have been far too many of these bullshit scare stories. Look at DDT for instance. How many millions have died from malaria all due to the EPA, Rachel Carson and her stupid book the Silent Spring!!

DDT is indeed carcinogenic, and had a negative effect on the eggshells of raptors. That's not even debatable. Mosquito nets do very well in 3rd world countries as a guard against malaria.

This is a prime example of typical cockeyed thinking that seems to happen all the time. Over one million people mostly children and young adults die each year from malaria in Africa alone. Yet here you are spouting the same old bullshit as Rachel Carson in Silent Spring. In the years since its publication it has been estimated that over 50 million have died. So kindly please shut the fuck up, you really don't have a clue!!

That's because they don't, it just another example of oceangoing bullshit driven by ambulance chasers.

Actually dumbass, a plaintiff does not have to use a jury, they can use the bench.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discover_the_Networks

Discover the Networks (originally Discover the Network) is a website run by the David Horowitz Freedom Center that focuses on the individuals, groups, and history of groups alleged to be political left wing (e.g., the network of tax-exempt groups and politicians funded by George Soros it collectively labels "The Shadow Party"). DtN was launched in 2004 and has a staff of about a dozen contributors. Its current Editor-in-Chief is David Horowitz; John Perazzo is the project's managing editor, and Richard Poe is its investigative editor. Discover the Network is associated with FrontPageMag.com.
According to the project's mission statement, Discover the Network's goal is to provide a comprehensive "guide to the political left" covering "the individuals and organizations that make up the left and also the institutions that fund and sustain it."[1][2] The project also seeks to "define the left's...programmatic agendas," which it contends are often concealed. The project's contributors contend that the political left in the United States commonly applies a "deceptive public presentation" of itself that conceals a network of affiliations and shared political views with "radical agendas". It views these as communist, socialist, environmentalist, "anti-capitalist", and "anti-American" causes.[1][3] The website is meant to be the conservative analog of left-leaning websites that compile lists that include conservatives such as those created by Southern Poverty Law Center and Media Matters.[4]
The website has been criticized for including leftists on the same list as Islamists.[4] Horowitz, who wrote about the alleged connection between these groups in his book Unholy Alliance, says "that groups who despise one another might actually be working closely together, maybe without even knowing it." It's not what they are for but that they are "linked by anti-Americanism" that accounts for their being in alignment on the political front.[4] Tim Wise, who is listed in Discover the Networks, objects to being linked to Saddam Hussein in his opposition to George W. Bush's Iraq policy.[5] Dean Saitta objects to being described as a supporter of Ward Churchill.[6]
