Ironically it reasons the reverse is true. Children in college love socialism because in an ivory tower academic setting it works perfectly. Once a person gains some experience in the real world that blissful idealism is hit by hard reality.

We have freedom to travel, we have freedom to read, we can watch broadcasts from all over the world. We're not Cuba where access to information from the outside world is often denied.

That is such a tired old strawman. The reality is that you have this bad habit of referring to anyone who recognizes the limits and flaws of capitalism and who don't worship it as a religion as "Socialist". Spare me!!

I fully believe in market economies over command economies. Market economies work. Command economies don't work. You want to know two other things that don't work? Communism and laissez-faire capitalism.

Market enconomies have huge advantages in economics but they also have flaws. They are not the solution to everything and when markets fail to provide goods and services that are needed than the public has the right to make public investment in those needed goods and services. If you want to call that "Socialism" fine but you seem to want to inconsistently choose what you call "socialism".

If kids today are "socialist" by your standards it's because they correctly understand that free market fundamentalism isn't the answer to every problem.

I'm waiting for the socialism that doesn't skyrocket my taxes. The middle class is leaving CA in droves for a reason.

When someone invents a cheap socialism, I'll jump on board.
 
The OP hits both nails on the head. Immigrants' children have always been the generation which grabs public education, blends it with the parents' survival drive and produces big progress for the family and the whole economy. That's nail #1.

At the same time, those hard-working and motivated second generation kids whiz past the obsolete WASPs who after all these years still haven't made it into the middle class. Those are the resentful no-college whites who blame the Mexicans, the blacks etc. etc. for their economic stagnation and declining social status. They look to Trump to solve their problems and put them back on top, i.e. "Make America great again." Boy, are they in for a disappointment!

You're rationalizing if you don't accept that Wallstreet was the primary culprit and driver of the Great Recession. There is plenty of blame to go around and the Fed made some significant mistakes but to deny the facts and reality of what caused the crash is rationalizing.

I'm speaking to the facts of what drove the crash, not rationalizing. And this is not letting Wall St off the hook but the Fed was the driver.

How comes their population is still growing. The fallacy of the "socialism" argument is we use it all the time when the free market fails. Would you rather our military be a free market one or privatize all education?

I'm well aware of the facts and you're delusional.

I'll be fare though to you. You probably have not suffered the consequences that one corrupt and/or criminal businessman can inflict on others. I lost 12 years of my career due to a couple of them. I also passed the ethics test by passing information onto prosecutors that helped put them in jail where they belonged and in the process doomed the company I worked for and discredited a viable technology that I busted my ass for 12 years to develop along with others who did the same. It was an important and hard life lesson.
