In the case of Obama he garnered huge respect initially and lost much of that over the years in the UK least ways. Can't help feeling that Trump will gain far more respect over time, especially when Brexit happens.

Be honest. The main reason you folks respected Obama at first was primarily that he wasn't George W. Bush. Once that Honeymoon was over y'all went right back to disliking US Presidents.

We disliked him for his screwups, Syria, Libya and Iraq. He was also perceived to be anti-British rightly or wrongly. I had high hopes for him at first, especially after Bush.
