How does being allowed to carry a concealed weapon across State borders

make America safer" Currently, it is supposedly a top priority for the new Congress, but I'd love to know how a guy from Louisiana, Alabama, or Texas, which all have high rates of gun violence, makes everyone safer by being allowed to pack his gun in New York, Massachusetts, or Hawaii, which all have low levels of gun violence?

And don't bother to regurgitate all the nonsense regarding the Second Amendment, as we know, no right is absolute, even speech can be regulated, Justice Scalia himself stated in wan't an unlimited right

Not concerned with "making America safer". I want to make MEsafer. But if 500,000 more ME's are safer, it might help "make America safer"

When does common sense prevail over your fear of being safer?

Your chances of getting killed in the majority of those States with stricter gun laws is about as remote as you getting struck by lighting, in fact, others getting killed by your use of the gun is probably greater

Nah, if he wanted to stay safer he wouldn't leave home, he knows the laws of the State before he travels, if he feels he is in danger, don't go

It is a hard call. We have weapons on all our vessels for pirates/smugglers. (Yes, they still exist). They do have the ability to give you the upper hand most times or at least a show will make them look for an easier target. I imagine it would be the same on the streets on land.

I can assure you, the tourist sections of New York, Boston, Chicago, etc., are a whole lot safer than the Red Sea or any where else privacy thrives

Your theory assumes everyone is packing, so you need to pack to stay safe, but remember, it is those States with stricter laws and lower gun violence, and the one packing is coming from a State with open gun laws and higher gun violence

I am a proponent of people owning guns. That being said, the open carry laws are foolish. Stupid. I can understand a person carrying a concealed handgun. Those idiots walking around with rifles are just looking for trouble and it will not be long in coming.

that's such a sensible approach that we can't do that!

You're mistaken if you think possessing a weapon makes you safer. It's a delusional myth the gullible barrel strokers buy.

it's freaky crazy to see rifles in a 7-11

For sure. Gives folks the wrong impressions for one, particularly someone coming in from out of state who knows nothing about the open carry law. It also tends to make little men think they are bigger than they are. None of that is good.

I partied with some skinheads in West Virginia back in the daze..
they were nuts and drank (etc.) and played rock and roll and shot off their guns in the woods like for days.
But at least that was a rural area to your point. I do not want to see open carry in urban/suburban areas, unless you are on duty.

I completely agree. Always a pleasure Anatta! Have a great evening.

Who said it makes America safer. Is your only contribution straw man arguments?

I also notice you left off Illinois. Was that by accident or by design?

Why else would they make it a priority in Congress? Not a straw man argument, isn't all gun legislative concerns about making us safer?

And if you read down, I did include Illinois, Illinois is ranked 12 in gun violence and has a bit stricter gun laws than most. Also, before you bring up Chicago, why would you need in gun in Chicago, you will never go anywhere near the neighborhoods that are plagued with gun violence, the areas you'd be in are probably safer than your home town

again, scalia was wrong on the 'no right is absolute' shit, but if you have a problem with the intensive background check that Texas does, which by the way has a statistic that licensed carriers are the lowest percentage of criminals in the state, then maybe your issue is just with guns and not who has been given permission to exercise a right.
