Is it ok if the door is locked?. I do that a lot and use a spare key to open the door. Anyway - i think it's a good law. Blacks and illegals love to steal cars.

jan 6 2016 On a cold morning in Roseville, resident Nick Taylor, 24, drove up to his girlfriend’s house and ran inside to pick her up with her two-year-old son.

He left his car running in the driveway. Instead of returning to a warm vehicle, he got a costly reminder in the form of a $128 ticket on the windshield from Roseville for leaving a vehicle unattended.

He ranted about it on Facebook, blaming the dip*** police for not just knocking on the door and telling him to turn off his car, and his post drew thousands of shares and angry comments, many of them on his side.

Police stand by the ticket. “I encourage our officers to write this ticket,” said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin, citing car theft as public safety concern.

“All it takes is someone to hop in this car and take off. Then there’s a chase often at a high rate of speed and all that could have been prevented,” Chief Berlin added, saying a remote starter includes safeguards against theft.

I have a remote start feature just so I can start my car in my driveway ... unattended.

Why would you? Is it to modify the environment in the passenger compartment?
If so, in what way?
Run the heater & defroster?
Run the AC to chill it down?

Where do you live?

I live inside the Adirondack Park of New York State. We've got a few feet of snow on the ground (according to my neighbor that went hunting on snow shoes out behind my house earlier this week.

I keep my 2016

in a concrete and steel garage.
A ShelterLogic might keep the rain off. But all Summer long the cool nights chill the car down, and the moist morning air condenses moisture on all of it; especially the stuff underneath that matters, brake lines etc.

The garage is made of 10" thick concrete walls. They have enough thermal mass to prevent such condensation cycles. I expect this car to last a while; despite the salt they put on the roads around here.

I left a water bottle in my car. Last time I drove the car, I found the water had frozen solid.

BUT !!

The garage evens out the thermal cycling; cool in the day, warmer at night, all Summer long.

I've got no remote starter, and wouldn't know what to do with it if I did.

But the car has a remote which unlocks the doors, opens the trunk, & some other stuff.

Not even if locked, it would shut down without the fob in it if someone tried to take off in it?

Yeah, you have to have the fob to drive. Mine actually requires the key be inserted to drive too. Some just have a start button, and require the fob be in very close proximity to drive.

I did now notice that at the end of the article, it mentions remote starters are ok because of the built in anti theft measures.

It's great for cold mornings.

That is why Michigan is a shit hole, they hold law abiding citizens accountable for what criminals might do.

what a load of shit from the cops. Stolen cars are a safety concern? I never even got a phone call back from the police after I reported my car stolen. Never heard a thing.

actually I don't think it's a state law......might be a city ordinance........

No, it's just a shake down to try and recoup the $30,000,000 Macomb County spent """repairing""" M-59 last year. I mean, those road crews aren't gonna pay for themselves to fuck it up every year.
