The Trump Effect? After Carrier pledge to keep jobs in US, more companies may follow

Do you not consider the deal to be one giant bribe? If you do/don't do X, I will give you Y is generally recognized as a bribe, but, let's just call it an incentive.

is this the tax incentives? If carrier left indiana would get 0 so they are giving away money they already lost.

Yeah, because the only employer in Indianapolis is Carrier. Without these 1000 (500) jobs the whole city would turn to tumbleweeds. /s

It's bad economics because you are forcing good, dynamic, growing businesses/industries and productively employed workers to subsidize failing businesses/industries and unproductively employed workers.
it's not "failing" in any way now. Moving to Mexico was simple corporate greed - but its's profitabler in Indiana too.
Tax incentives to grow/save jobs is what every state does in competition with each other.

carrots and sticks..hopefully an improved business climate will require less of both -but this is normal enough.
OMG!!! Trump used tax incentives!!!! *horrors*

Let's call it for what it is. It's great that he saved these jobs...but is that a sustainable formula?

no :) see you cant just state that im going to move to mexico. You have to actually have plans to move there as carrier did. Sites staked out etc etc. Its very easy to verify especially for someone with the resources of a president that you are actually going to do it.

Next you have to deal with the public backlash as well and theres no guarantee you would be given the same deal Instead of the president asking the citizens to boycott your products.

Lastly I believe trump got this result giving away very little.

Lets assume for the sake of argument that fortune is 100% accurate. Trump gave out 700k in tax credits for this to stay.

700k in credits. So carrier would be paying x-700k. If they left what would they be paying indiana? Yup. 0. The employees would not be paying payroll tax or any other tax as well.
Bingo..I don't know if you recall "buy American" it was around for awhile -but many products were not available..but it was never a national goal either. So Trump makes it a national goal -that helps.

Your point about 0 taxes paid ( on the out-shored jobs) vs. whatever taxes receivd ( by not outsourcing) is solid.

And the general idea of increasing wealth by not outsourcing,and creating a better business climate trumps all the minutia
of (+-) per deal is gained lost..grow the economy. save/acquire good paying jobs=win/win

Let's call it for what it is. It's great that he saved these jobs...but is that a sustainable formula?
it's 1 arrow in the quiver..again states do this all the time in competition with each other. By itself it's not a YUGE deal -but it's a good deal.
Now for regulatory reform/tax reform= better business climate=GDP ( wealth) growth

As for the OP & Carrier, kudos to Trump. But it was essentially a $700K payoff on the backs of IN taxpayers, all made possible by the fact that the acting Governor is also the VP-Elect.

Not exactly a formula that can be utilized quite as much going forward.
I heard that this morning. Is it your contention that someone actually wrote Carrier a check? Or is it a multiple year tax break?(aka, Carrier keeping more of the money THEY earn) And how do you feel about the New York deal, the one where if you bring your business to New York, you pay ZERO state taxes for 10 years? That's a great idea,right? Because it was supposedly the democrat governor's idea?

He pulled a favor from the guv'nor for showmanship, which is what he's best at. He'll crow about this one for ages - but it's a drop in the bucket of what he actually needs to do.

What do leftist think is a sustainable formula? The last eight years of malaise? Nothing dumber than a liberal whose only solution to everything is raising taxes and bashing capital thinking that theirs is a sustainable policy.

You're not intelligent enough to comprehend the irony and hypocrisy you wallow in.

sure. but it's important enough he kept a campaign promise, and GOT IT DONE.
Getting things done vs. jawboning about getting things done is how a presidency becomes a success. It's a small step in the right direction.

Do you have anything to add other than memes?

I find it ironic that you think the stupidity you erupt with aren't meme's or thread trolling. Liberals seem to lack a basic self awareness I find fascinating, and stupid.

Your fairy tale is no more accurate than tsuke's leftist inspired dystopian nonsense.

What fairy tale would that be shit-for-brains? Ironic coming from someone who fabricates their own version of reality on a daily basis that lacks factual content or anything that could be mistaken intelligent.

You didn't understand the stimulus. It wasn't designed to create careers.

Correct; it was intended to save government jobs on the pretense it would increase employment and pull us out of a recessionary malaise; it failed on all counts. But it did succeed in burying the American taxpayer in an additional trillion dollars of debt. Yay us!

We were in a freefall, courtesy of the previous Republican admin.

This is nothing more than a bunch of false BS. What is it about you LibTards that compels you to constantly spew out outright falsehoods and lies and support corrupt sociopathic lying candidates?

It was supposed to get people working & turn things around - temporary was fine. And it did just that.

Is that why leftist morons have been whining about wage inequality, minimum wages and low paying jobs for the last eight years? Don't answer that; it was rhetorical because you lack the basic comprehension level it would take to comprehend the irony of your false claims.

Back then, you guys were saying it would crash the market and ruin us.

Link us up lying dumbfuck. What was said is that it would bury the American taxpayer in trillions more in debt while doing very little to create good paying sustainable jobs.

Here is the thing uneducated leftist dullards like you can't seem to grasp; if Governments could BORROW themselves out of recessions by amassing massive debt and printing money, we would never have recessions. Unfortunately for simple minded leftist morons, it isn't that simple and NEVER works.

Instead, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. Not my fault you had no idea what the intent was.

Yep; and that was to save Federal jobs while burying the nation in an insurmountable unsustainable amount of debt. Do you even have the slightest clue how much debt has been run up by this administration and it's simple minded efforts to manage the economy? Have you even the remotest idea how dangerous that is for our economy?

Don't answer that; it was rhetorical in the knowledge that you are too ignorant to comprehend the reality of the last eight years and what it actually means.

This whole Carrier deal is just like Blue Star in the "Wall Street" movie.

Remember when Gekko tells bud that unless his dad is on the board of some other large companies, they're going to have a pretty short relationship?

Gekko = American people
Bud = Trump
Pence = Buds' dad
