The Trump Effect? After Carrier pledge to keep jobs in US, more companies may follow

You'll have to be a very hungry dog to turn on your master. Even then, I doubt you will do it.

:*

newhoo.

Some things coming out of Fortune. These is the usual Unnamed sources crap so take it with a grain of salt.

http://fortune.com/2016/11/30/donald-trump-carrier-deal-jobs/

700k per year in tax credits for carrier. something like 800/1400 jobs saved at the main plant then 300/700 saved at another location. Not the best deal in the world but not the worst either if true. Trump is reforming the tax code anyway so he may not even be giving away much. Another "unnamed source" in nyt says UTI is more concerned about getting on Trumps bad side than the actual jobs.

Who wrote this pile of garbage, Trump himself? Notice all the unsourced backers and top aides?

Bill Gates has not been CEO of Microsoft for some time now and I don't believe they do much manufacturing. It seems like the idiot author threw that in just to name drop.

Turn up the heat! LOL, it's called crony capitalism. He, or rather Pence, gave them who knows what kind of incentives to stay and it is really bad economics. It might do well politically but it makes us all poorer.

wut. how is this bad economics? This was this entire towns source of income. You take this away you take away the service industry that caters to these workers. The land value of the area drops. Basically you take this away and your consigning another area to the fate of flint and detroit and for what? So that mexico can get another factory?

The criticism of Obama was focused on the bailout. It also came on the heels of the Wall Street bailouts.

Trump achieved this without using tax payer money and he did it before he's officially in office.

It's a Trump win no matter how you slice it. Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come.

Bullshit. The tax payers of Indiana are now subsidizing Carrier.

not a bad number for a week's work.....

Yeah, if has 208 more of them in his 4 year term he will have "saved" just over 100k jobs or rather he will have burdened taxpayers by creating 100k well payed welfare roles. One hundred thousand jobs is not even a good month for our economy.

well obama personally saved like 0 :)

Newy this just didnt save the immediate jobs. The economy is interwoven. If the factory is gone no one will spend on the barber, the baker, the prostitute. No one will pay taxes to hire the teacher or the ditch digger. Convincing the plant to stay likely saved the entire town.

Yep; because everyone knows that Solyndra, Obamacare and a nearly trillion dollar stimulus boondoggle work. Moron.

...as well as, a failed trillion dollar government porkulus bill, Obamacare and Solyndra.

Nothing more ignorant than leftist twits who think tax subsidies come out of the taxpayers pockets. Of course, these are the same idiots who think that what we earn belongs to the Government and that we should be thankful for what Government allows us to keep, and the equally stupid and specious view that governments have a Revenue problem instead of a SPENDING problem. Moron.

You cannot lecture ignorant leftists about the realities of the economy; it is always better to just point at their stupidity and laugh.

Yeah, because the only employer in Indianapolis is Carrier. Without these 1000 (500) jobs the whole city would turn to tumbleweeds. /s

It's bad economics because you are forcing good, dynamic, growing businesses/industries and productively employed workers to subsidize failing businesses/industries and unproductively employed workers.

Where else would they have gone? Another shift at mcdonalds? Which needs these very same workers to buy food so the service sector can have jobs?

At the point where we are at where labor participation is at an all time low we need every job we can get. Every person with a job creates additional demand which then creates additional jobs too.

I don't believe Obama saved any jobs.

Please, you are going to tell me about seeing the unseen.

Again, Carrier is not the only employer in the area. If the baker is forced to subsidize the factory he may have to start cutting his own hair and whacking off. Of course, forced to subsidize the failing factory, the barber and prostitute will not be in any better position than the baker or the candle stick maker. This only benefits the buggy whip makers.

Again, there is probably more than one factory in Indianapolis.

Some number will go into growing industries where jobs are actually being created, not "saved" (see subsidized and turned into welfare jobs) by politicians.

Well, you voted for him, so I assumed you didn't want any jobs to be saved.

but where are these jobs being created? By their interviews the carrier employees say that there was nothing else around.

A lot of liberals nowadays expect people like the carrier employees, the miners of west virginia, and various other groups to just pack up and move. Where and how? With the source of livelyhood gone the areas land value drops so they cant sell the house at a decent price. It costs a lot more money to move to the bigger cities and if retraining were supposed to magically get you the great new job then the people already in the cities would have been retrained to take them. The most likely outcome is they will move and end up begging in the street.

Your argument is one fit where we have a booming economy yet our economy sees less participation every year even if the govt is claiming we have "full employment"

Consider that your argument only makes sense in a world where hillary wins in a landslide. Instead of losing the house senate and presidency.
