"Just a couple of things about your post
1) Yes we are a signatory to the Geneva Convention, but ISIS and Al Queda are not." TD #16
True, but irrelevant.
"That is no small distinction" TD #16
I'll leave assessment of its size to you.
I know of no clause in the Geneva conventions that exempts non-State actors. To the contrary, iirc President Bush invoked the "for the duration" standard when he began to pack Gitmo with cab drivers and goat herders.
The Bushies declared that prison population "the worst of the worst". And by the end of their administration they'd released more than half of them. They were so bad, they were released.
CBS TV News reports there's fewer than 100 there now.
"a logical fallacy by an appeal to authority"
Premised on the feeble notion that:
a) this comment is addressed to me, &
b) it's a reference to Senator John McCain (R-AZ):
It's not a logical fallacy.
But it is a deference to authority.
He knows more about it than I do.
He knows more about it than YOU do.
I'm not sure what logic has to do with it.
I could type out the ethical / pragmatic argument; but simply don't want to waste my time.
