Betrayal?~Is obama going to allow Turkish ethnic cleansing the Kurds????

Russia has warm water ports - Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok. It's a myth that Russia has no warm water ports. Also, a warm water port in Syria is kind of pointless given that it's not connected to the Russian mainland. It's main purpose is as a base for mediterranean operations.

Vlad is way in the east, Murmansk must be at least partial ice(?) -
and while I am not all that familiar with any of them; St Petersberg is a long way in the Baltic Sea,
and Russian military ships have to go past Norway and Britain.

I take your point-I should have said "warm water ports with access to the Mediterranean / ME and international sea lanes.

But I wouldn't underestimate Tartus's strategic location with new upgrades, and new Russian domination of Syria
assuming the damn war ever ends.

Murmansk is keep ice free year round due to the tail ends of the warm North Atlantic current (it is a bit surprising, almost nothing else at that latitude is ice free). Vladivostok isn't truly ice free, but in the deepest parts of the winter it's kept open with icebreakers making paths through the ice, so it's operational year round. St. Petersburgs route is awkwardly positioned, it's free for commercial shipping to use but I imagine the strategic problems with getting out of the Baltic are the reason that the Atlantic fleet is based in Murmansk rather than St. Petersburg.

Here's a map explaining Murmansk's ice free nature:

Actually, St. Petersburg might not be ice free, while Murmansk is.

Ataturk rebelled against the Ottoman peace treaty and destroyed the Greeks intent on ethnically cleansing his homeland. Ataturk was a true hero.

Neither I nor the article says a damn thing about ataturk or the Greeks, next time read the fuckin article before you open mouth & insert foot....
