Hundreds of protesters have been arrested.........how can this be happening

Yea, spending a night in jail will surely teach them a lesson.:palm:

Make martyrs, it only serves to help the cause...:)

Yes most of them will learn a lesson, but unfortunately not all.

pppffffttttt... It gives them bragging rights... Arresting ppl during the anti-apartheid marches didn't stop the movement, nor did the arrests stop the protests against the war in Viet Nam... It helped bring it about...

They mowed down people in the anti-apartheid marches. That's why the anti-apartheid forces turned to violent revolution.

My response, as a Police Chief; would be to surround the protesters blocking any street, with armored vehicles and then arrest anyone within the circle.

You are not a police chief, are you Ma'am.

What if the protesters are peaceful?

Police chief of Mayberry doesn't really count Andy

If they are illegally blocking roads, streets, freeways, then they need to be arrested; because allowing them to continue also just emboldens them to behave in the same manner again.
Peaceful also has something to do with doing it legally.

If they are illegally blocking roads they are denying use of the roads to others who have a right to use them.

So off they go to the hoozgow.
