Maybe some people like raping Asian women?![]()
We're obviously not policy makers nor are we expected to have all the answers like they should but it's very difficult to believe everything would be status quo if we pull out. So knowing that what would we expect to happen going forward? I understand some Japanese want us gone but if us leaving creates a huge vacuum that would require an even bigger presence in the future is that a smart decision?
I guess a reduction in forces is going to take place, this may speed it up!

Chinese hegemony would be even more expansive across the South China Sea
if we are going to station them anywhere i would prefer to station them in random places in the us so they spend their money there while off base. Maybe they can stay in hawaii.

Okinawa is getting some land back etc. (see Rana's link)http://www.military.com/daily-news/...n-of-okinawa-military-held-land-to-japan.html but the base is not closing
because they are CLAIMING disputed territory also claimed by Vietnam and the Philippines. So? It's their part of the world.
Why shouldn't they have an Asian version of the Monroe Doctrine?
because they are CLAIMING disputed territory also claimed by Vietnam and the Philippines. The Chinese are building islands ( dredge) and sticking artillery pieces or a landing strip on them -threatening international shipping Then they use that "new land" to expand their territorial claims - effectively seizing mineral deposits.
.China's bases its South China Sea claim on a so-called "Nine Dash line" stretching deep into the maritime heart of southeast Asia and covering hundreds of disputed islands and reefs, rich fishing grounds and oil and gas deposits
Beijing by declaring an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) in the South China Sea, as it did in the East China Sea in 2013, and by stepping up its building and fortification of artificial islands.
here. chew on this for awhile..learn the background before the endless questioning

You are correctI saw a reduction in land in the article but didn't see anything about reduction in forces.

The 'Defense' budget is largely porkulus corporate welfare for the military-industrial complex.
The US hasn't won an actual war since 1945, and probably couldn't have pulled that off without the Soviets.
