Pay Attention To Libertarian Gary Johnson; He’s Pulling 10 Percent vs. Trump And Clin

Well, it's been proposed for many years, it will be mired in legalities and won't achieve security. Walls have never stopped people from smuggling drugs or people across borders.

So you're saying that there isn't a wall that can be built, that will stop the drugs or people crossing the borders in the area where the wall might be built?

People make way too much out of that unfavorable rating. The pundits seem all baffled why candidates who are so un-liked could get so many votes. So here, let me clear this up for anyone who is still confused about that. Especially those talking heads on the media who have spent way too much time in their ivory towers to understand reality.

The presidential election is not a dating service. People are not voting for people they like the most - someone they want to date or hang out with. This isn't love connection. It's a president election. Just because you don't like someone personally, that doesn't mean you don't vote for them.

What matters is their policy agenda. Not how sweet or likable they are.

Favorability isn't a measure of how much you like them as a person, it's how much you agree with them and like them as a leader. Other metrics (like "how much would you like to have a beer" with said person, are better measures of their personal likability). And these candidates are historically unlikable to a large amount of the American public.

There is this thing called Congress that people forget about. Presidential candidates can promise the moon, but nothing is done without Congress, except through executive orders and Obama has been criticized heavily for using them.

The president does have a lot of power to *not* do something. Can't very well expect a law to work very well when the executive is dragging his heels on enforcing it. He doesn't have a lot of power to just force through a brand new active policy, like Trump is calling for.

Paul Ryan is not the party. The Republicans in congress aren't exactly very popular among the Republican base right now (and for good reason). Between Cruz and Trump (both of whom supported building the border wall and re-negotiating current trade law as well as protecting manufacturing jobs here in America) that makes up the vast majority of the Republican party. So establishment types like Ryan better get in line - or they will likely be steamrolled.

As to how he will accomplish these things like building a border wall? Well...

Trump has managed the building of skyscrapers. So I think he can manage a wall. I'll never understand why some liberal democrats believe building a wall is so difficult. It's only something we've been doing since the dawn of human existence.

A skyscraper is a lot easier to build than a secure 2000 mile fence. China tried doing something similar once, and it's considered one of the wonders of the world. Also, it didn't work.

Why would anyone think it's reasonable for another (much poorer) nation to finance building projects in another nation? Who would think that the other nation would pay for that project? Trump supporters again, just want something for nothing.

As the Myrmidons sing along, Trump first brays that he “will build the wall” (which, incidentally, would have no bearing on visa overstays, who account for nearly half of the illegal-alien population).

Then, he vows to get Mexico to foot the bill, as if there were honor in extorting a poor but reasonably amicable neighbor into paying the vital border-security costs of a profligate superpower.

Trump’s wall plan, outlined in a memo scarcely one-and-a-half pages long (counting two large “TRUMP: Make America Great Again” headers), is equally harebrained. He says he will force Mexico to pay for the wall by contorting the Patriot Act, of all things, into a unilateral executive power to draft private money-transfer companies like Western Union into policing illegal-alien remittances to Mexico.

What an idiot. Even assuming that he twisted the law like that, obviously everyone's going to stop sending payments by WU afterwards, and he's going to get no money from the scheme. Does he honestly expect Illegal Immigrants to keep working for free and sending money that gets seized the entire time until he has enough money?

The wall is estimated to cost between 8 to 10 billion dollars.

Illegal immigration costs this country 100's of billions of dollars annually. So from an economic standpoint it is a sound investment, even if Trump is unsuccessful in shifting the burden of its cost onto Mexico.

Illegal immigration is worth several hundred billion dollars annually. Do you think the American economy will somehow be doing better if we suddenly subtract a few million laborers? There will be an economic shock, to say the least.

More jobs for citizens there will be. The economy is an abstraction, people are real.

He hates libertarians because of their belief in freedom regarding commerce and trade.

Hey, at least many of them support the gold standard!

Libertarians aren't for free trade, they're for trade that destroys America. They are blind to the facts that China puts tariffs on our products while we do not do the same. That's just stupid. Our leaders are stupid. Bernie agrees with trump on bad trade deals, btw.
