He put it out there and then refined his position on his policy page. I think it was pretty clear, at the time, he was talking about Muslim immigration [as opposed to US citizens or Muslim mayors from the UK lol].

I recall the debate: you can't block Muslim citizens because they have rights under the Constitution. And obviously, the president would have the discretion to permit Muslim mayors to enter the country.

It's anti-Trump hackery.

Well Jarod, I posted a link to his policy page where it was pretty clear he was talking about Muslim immigration. Most politicians are allowed to formalize their previously stated positions on their policy page.

Do you think an exception should be made for Trump?

I think presidential candidates should be careful what they say, especially in written previously thought out policy programs that they read from a podium and more especially when the statement clearly violates the 1st Amendment and is prejudice to a billion of the worlds population.
