A federal judge on Monday night upheld North Carolina’s voter ID law, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Judge Thomas Schroeder issued a 485-page ruling posted online Monday evening, dismissing all claims in the challenge to the state’s 2013 election law overhaul.

Schroeder, appointed by President George W. Bush, also upheld portions of the law that cut the number of days people could vote early and eliminated same-day registration and voting allowances.

"This ruling further affirms that requiring a photo ID in order to vote is not only common-sense, it's constitutional," Gov. Pat McCrory said in a statement.

Virginia McLaurin, the 107-year-old dynamo who danced with President Obama but couldn’t obtain a photo ID, can get one now, thanks to a new regulation announced by Mayor Muriel E. Bowser.

The regulation, effective immediately, is designed to help people who lack necessary documentation for a ‘Real ID,’ which is required for air travel and other business requiring identification.

The new rule, which complies with federal requirements, allows the District’s Department of Motor Vehicle director to expand the list of acceptable documents for residents whose birth certificates and other identifying information may be hard to dig up.

McLaurin, who was born to sharecroppers in 1909, made headlines earlier this year when she was invited to the White House .

But she couldn’t fly. She had lost her government-issued ID several years ago in a purse-snatching. To obtain a new one, she was told she would need a birth certificate from South Carolina – but to get the birth certificate, she needed a photo ID.

She despaired of ever getting a new one.

“I was birthed by a midwife and the birthday put in a Bible somewhere. I don’t know if they even had birth certificates back then.”
