Trump hasn't really focused on Hillary yet so I wouldn't get too excited about today's poll numbers lol.
That said, Trump could help himself by putting a lid on the personal attacks and focusing on policy. Trump can be pretty persuasive when he wants to be and he's a natural leader. People talk about what Trump wants to talk about---he directs the debate like no one else in the scene.
But he needs to clean up his act and I'm not sure he's capable of it. If he can, I think he's got a good shot at Hillary, who is pretty vulnerable, to put it mildly.

if the electorate was just old white guys you might have a point but this years POTUS election will be decided by women. So in other words Trump is fucked. Trump is at best a 3:1 long shot. I think Crus is 8:1.
Kasich is the only Republican left standing who is electable but he's an establishment guy and the GOP base has made it clear that an establishment guy isn't wanted.

As a former Republican I'm loving that the GOP establishment is getting its due. For over thirty years they have only given lip service to the needs of their base while doing everything to protect the corporate elites and old money families. You reap what you sew. Looks like they didn't learn the lesson that Dems were taught in 68.
Clinton is vulnerable. she's a crappy candidate with a ton of baggage. High negatives.
But she'll reinvent herself enough to get elected before returning to her slimeball ways.
Trump can't act like a serious guy..his ego traps him into stupid Tweets and such.
The Clinton Slime machine will feast on Trump and the lemming demographics will be herded off the cliff following Hillary.

It is rather depressing. It'll be interesting to see who wins the slime contest though. Nobody has withstood Trump's verbal onslaught yet. Hillary is no slouch at destroying people either, but she's never been matched up against someone like Trump before.

wishful thinking. Anything is possible but statistical probability is against you. Trump has a broad base but it represents a small part of the electorate. He has alienated minorities, immigrants and women. There simply aren't enough angry white guys to get him elected. Cruz support isn't broad based and is mainly evangelicals and the far right. Made up political attacks won't undermine Clintons support as a vulnerable candidate due to these two GOP front runners being far weaker and her strong support by women.
I will probably hold my nose and vote Clinton as she really represents four more years of the status quo. That's far preferable to a cynical opportunist like Trump or a rigid and dangerous ideologue like Cruz.

yep. American campaigns are mud-slinging, and both candidates can do it. Which drives everything back to a base election -that favors the Democrats.
Trump needs to study though, he hasn't improved his ability to say anything new in a long time -Clinton will just make up stuff like she always does.

I just read where he thinks countries under the US protection umbrella should ante-up and that we should boycott Saudi oil until they do more about ISIS. I don't know that either would work [I don't know that they wouldnt] but a lot of Trumps ideas don't suffer for a lack of imagination lol.
A base election would favor Hillary. But the implied assumption [the base will turn out] is what should worry the democrats. Blacks almost certainly won't turn out for Hillary like they did Obama. Is there enough anti-Trump sentiment amongst women that it will over come the number of women who are uninspired by Hillary? Same ditto with Hispanics: will they turnout to vote for Hillary, warts and all?
I also suspect there's going to be a lot of first time voters this year. If I'm right, the majority of them will go Trumps way.
Anyone who thinks this is a slam dunk for Hillary is being too optimistic, IMO.

But this whole election has been fairly shocking. I would have said the same thing about Trump winning as much as he has up to now.
Still, it would be some kind of magic trick. His only solid demographic is white men. It's unlikely that any other demographic will truly support him. His only real hope is to drive Hillary's #'s much lower than they are, which seems like a long shot.
