California’s Pegasus Foods to build plant in Rockwall, Texas create 300 jobs

AUSTIN – The “gushing” leader of Pegasus Foods stood beside Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday and announced his company would build an 80,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and create about 300 jobs in Rockwall.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally be here in Texas,” said Jim Zaferis, principal of the Los Angeles-based company that supplies food for restaurants such as Chili’s, Panda Express and Cinnabon.

Zaferis said he was inviting many of his California-based employees to relocate with the company, saying the quality of life here is much better. “It’s the kind of place where you really want to raise a family,” he said.

For a company like Pegasus, though, the main attraction is Texas’ business-friendly climate, Abbott said. Texas has low taxes, is a right-to-work state and protects companies from large settlements from litigation, he said. “It all makes Texas a natural magnet for businesses to come here and grow here,” Abbott said.

The governor said attracting companies like Pegasus helps expand diversity in the Texas economy so that it is insulated from the oscillations of the oil and gas industry, which have long driven the state’s prosperity and its financial woes.

In addition to the Pegasus expansion, Abbott notes that McKesson Corp., a pharmacy and healthcare technology company announced last week that it would expand in Irving. Publishing giant Conde Nast also recently said it will open a digital innovations center in Austin. And Oracle, a software company, also announced an expansion in Austin. “This is a furthering of an intended purposeful process,” Abbott said.

IOW...they want to move to a state where they can fire employees for no reason and won't have to make a large payout to employees injured on the job who sue the company for damages.

So corporate greed trumps all other considerations once again.

Why am I not surprised?

Zap, to stop greed should the federal government step in and prevent businesses from opening additional plants/facilities/locations outside their founding state?

it's not surprising that selfish liberals complain about greedy corporations but I don't see them living in meager housing or driving 15 year old cars so they can give their own money to help out the homeless.

If Pegasus wants to open an ADDITIONAL plant in Texas, no problem.

Shutting down their California facility and firing the employees fucks over every single loyal employee who helped that company turn a profit.
