But hey they just want their abominable marriage recognized!

So they paid their fine on Monday then just before Christmas the government took more? That's not right.

Bigotry doesn't pay.
Learn it!

Well, this is true, in a way. I would have preferred the free market to reject their premise and their business to die a natural death. Instead they got people to "help" them pay after they appealed as martyrs.

And I think the government may wind up paying for seizing funds after they paid their fine plus interest earlier that week. That is double jeopardy, you can't make them pay punitive fines twice just because you want to stop them from buying gifts during the Winter Solstice holidays.

In my personal opinion a privately owned business should be able to deny service for any reason. If a restaurant only wants to serve one type of people then ultimately that decision will either work out for their business or it will fail and they will close up. If this bakery doesn't feel right in catering a wedding for a gay couple then the couple should look elsewhere and if the bakery's decision ends up offending so many local people that it hurts their business then that's something they will take responsibility for. If I walked into a bakery and the owner said that they don't make cakes for Christian girls id be mad but I'd give my business to someone else and ultimately that owners decision will either have no impact or he will offend more and more people and his business will probably fail. I certainly wouldn't want him making my cake after that. Also if I were getting married id want the bakery to be invested in my cake and actually want to bake it. I would not want to get my wedding cake through a bakery that doesn't want to serve me for whatever reason. Freedom isn't always something that is an advantage to you personally and one day all the people that wan to constantly be appeased will probably end up offending someone else causing the shoe to be on the other foot. Basically my point is that if you don't like someone's business practices then don't shop there.

Yes ma'am, but you make the mistake of exhibiting common sense.

So, where does it end? First it's this and next it is Muslims, then it's Jews, so do you just start letting people discriminate against others they don't agree with and let them use their religion to discriminate?

your racism is destroying the country

we will not allow it to do so.

If you don't want to have to serve gay people or black people or tall people then fucking move out of this country

The discrimination would still exist though. Being told that they have to let a Muslim eat in their restaurant doesn't change their attitude toward the Muslim person eating there. I could see a series of unfortunate events happening such as quietly spitting in their food before it's brought out, or dropped on the floor and put back on the plate, very slow service, the wrong order brought out, and it would all be "accidents". On the other hand if the neighborhood knew that a restaurant owner discriminates then perhaps the community would come together to call him out on it or, and more effectively, stop eating there en masse.

Racism is wrong but as a consumer wouldn't you rather know who the racists are then have them in the shadows?

I personally would not consider baking a cake for a gay couples wedding to be something detrimental to my Christian faith since it's not a sin in my opinion to do that for them, but it's not my bakery and so if they don't feel right doing it then that should be respected, not necessarily liked, but respected and then look elsewhere.

You may be a racist bigot if you agree with anything ILA posts.

Sometimes sure but I would imagine that it's definitely not always the case.

The racists closest ally is anyone who tolerates their attitude and behavior.
It's not hard to figure out who is a racist if you talk to them at all.
Looking the other way makes you just as guilty by complicity...

your religion doesn't override anyones rights

if your religions tells you to be evil to people then you need to live in another country.

This country does not give you that power over others

People do have a right to freely exercise their religion but there is no right to not be offended or refused service from a private business. The easiest way to punish a business that you or others consider to be bigoted is to not give them business at all. Would you want to give your money to a business that doesn't want your business but is forced to give it to you? You are still effectively funding a bigot or a racist aren't you?

I would only partially agree. I think it helps a racist more by continuing their business by shopping there simply because you can. The money still goes to the racist.
