The Trump problem

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
Nixon warned the GOP that letting the evangelical right wing fringe element would eventually hurt the party. What evolved from that under Reagan was the new conservatives, then the tea party. One of the underlying tenants of all these factions was a resentment of Civil rights & affirmative action...something that even the libertarians can't quite hide in their rhetoric.

Trump is merely a trust fund kid with an enormous ego who craves attention and power.....he's always wanted to be a power broker in politics....and the GOP in it's endeavors to maintain a strong voting block have inadvertently given him that platform. That they don't like their dirty mental laundry being aired is sadly part of the process. As more and more outright racist organizations an prominent individuals grasp onto Trump's blathering, the embarrassment of the GOP will only grow.

Trump's support isn't coming from evangelical right wing Christians. His main support is coming from the blue collar white guys without college degrees.

Trump does not have the support of the evangelicals. He has a "special place" where he keeps bibles, it's very nice. Trump's support comes from the middle. These people are angry and want an outsider, but they don't want an evangelical or an ideologue. Instead they are supporting a progressive populist.

That being said. Most people who didn't want to vote for McCain or Dole will feel less reticence if Trump is the nominee. So while most do not want the guy, he's better than McCain...

Donald Trump will save the country from having a republican president for at least the next two terms. For that we thank him.

It's true. Sadly true. Because it's even true of me. I'll vote Trump over Hillary- couldn't vote Dole. I'd have abstained this upcoming election, as I did with Dole, if they'd run Kerry or Biden- which I suppose is a passive vote for a democrat. But the choice coming down between Trump or Hillary, it's. Trump vote.

This is true and sad at the same time. As to Trump being a trust fund baby, I would not say he is that. Yes, he received a few hundred thousand dollars, probably a few million today, and he made something out of it. Trust fund babies don't do shit with their money, except drink, drugs and do whatever. He certainly had a help up the ladder that very few have, but he is not trust fund baby.

There's some cross-over with Crazy Bernie supporters too. Which is something Hillary needs to be aware of if she's not already. Trump is attractive to the anti-establishment/anti-PC elements in the Republican Party. I'm not exactly sure why evangelicals support Trump [to whatever extent they do] because he's kind of middle of the road on social issues.

Probably because Trumps anti/establishment rhetoric Trumps his views on abortion or whatever.

You can't fault Trump for having the head start. He knows more about what it takes to get the economy going than any Democrat or Republican in the race because he's had to survive in it---not as a career politician but as a business man. I don't worry about a president Trump on the economy---I worry about his mouth getting in the way of him getting there.

I'm one of those people who don't care what he says lol. I find much of it entertaining, in fact. The only thing I care about is what he will do or not do once elected. He's undeniably intelligent and probably the slickest 'non-politician' to come down the pike since Reagan.

If he stays to true to his rhetoric and can manipulate congress like he does the media, he can be a very effective president.
