I would only agree to an extent though because there needs to be a way to not abuse that sort of thing. What if the next name added to a watch is my name because of the party i'm registered to, or because I decided to participate in an on-campus pro-gun rights event one afternoon? Do you know what I mean? Then one day I go to buy a gun for home defense and they tell me i'm on a list with no explanation. It would be an easy thing to abuse by someone corrupt. We have to be careful about putting rights and freedoms into the hands of a select few that could change their minds depending on the political climate.

The terrorist in california though had no prior situations or incidences that would have warranted him being on a watch list. From all indications he was an American born Muslim that went to college and had a full time job. You can't see what's inside someone's heart though, and no list or ban can do that either.

ok but you cannot deny an American's 2nd amendment rights because of suspicion. Put them on the watch list, that's fine and responsible, but they have not committed a crime nor have they conceded their rights by being on that list. The same goes for their 4th amendment rights too. If the government is collecting evidence on them without a warrant.
