Before his Death, Father of ADHD Admitted it Was a Fictitious Disease

As snopes (your source) pointed out, software translations are imperfect and context is important. It does appear he believed it was overdiagnosed. He's not really the father of ADHD and this was not said on his death bed either. Your source for the OP made it seem as if it were the dying confession of some villainous conspirator and relied on the Church of Scientology for much of their bogus information. You chose to use a source with credibility problems.

Again, I don't doubt it may be overdiagnosed. I guess, that won't satisfy the Church's mission, though.

Lazy twat, you have the actual words in German (fabrizierte Erkrankung) go translate them yourself. They mean fabricated disease, there is no context it is crystal clear.

So I'm supposed to take the word of an author and a Teacher, BOTH with NO TRAINING OR EXPERIENCE in diagnosing or treatment of ADD/ADHD, over the chorus of ACTUAL DOCTORS trained to diagnose such problems, who say otherwise.

Alrightie then!

You are not supposed to do anything, if you wanted to judge the efficacy of homeopathy would you ask homeopaths or doctors, patients and other interested parties? I have tried to explain falsifiability to Desh already regarding AGW.

Of course, there is always context. Just like there is the context of your original source filled with lies and half truths from Scientologists.

Another piece of context is that Eisenberg was born in Philadelphia the son of Russian immigrants. I don't see any indication that he spoke German so the translation has probably gone through a couple cycles.

There is also the context of who wrote the article for Der Spiegel.

In February 2012, the German weekly publication Der Spiegel reported in its cover story that Eisenberg spoke of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in his final interview, seven months before his death, that ADHD was the prime example of a "fabricated disease". Eisenberg remarked that instead of prescribing a 'pill', psychiatrists should determine whether there are psychosocial reasons that could lead to behavioral problems.[10] It should be noted that Jörg Blech the author of the Der Spiegel article is critical of the healthcare industry, and authored a book in 2006 entitled "Inventing disease and pushing pills: pharmaceutical companies and the medicalisation of normal life."

Again, the real facts seem to indicate that Eisenberg, a pioneering psychiatrist but not the father of ADHD, expressed that there was some overmedication and not on his deathbed. So what? So the facts don't satisfy your "church's" mission and so you have invented a bunch of lies.

My Adderall managed to last 15 days this month. I'm getting weak. I think I once knocked out a month's supply in 9 days...

according to a new study from the University of Pennsylvania. Students who took Adderall didn’t actually perform better on tests of cognitive function — they only thought they did.

when I was in highschool I thought it was all bullshit because I could get shit done when I really put my mind to it.

In college though there were times where I seriously couldn't focus for shit. I am convinced I have a.d.d. Luckily I knew someone that sold adderal and I bought some and in addition to talking a mile a minute to anyone I came across, I was fucking laser focused. Adderal was AWESOME. I wonder if that's how normal people feel doing work because if that's the case, I have been like a retard my whole life with regards to studying.

The medication is even more bullshit then the diagnosis. Do you know what happens when you dont treat ADHD in a child? They grow up normal! Give them medication and they become zombies!!

Attention disorder is caused by too much video games and TV. Millions of kids have had an attention disorder for years and they grew up fine and dandy without the help of the pill pushers! And hyperactive comes from the large amounts of sugar kids consume these days.Keeps them active and fit!!!

I would NEVER give my children that poison!

I had my kids playing sports from 5 to 18

You are such a major dick, even the Wiki article states that phrase used in the Der Spiegel article was "fabricated disease", so stick your context up your arse. Here is something else for you to know, I needed to pass a technical German exam to get my chemistry degree and I am damn certain that was even more the case with psychiatry at the time Eisenberg was at college.

YES, the translation from English-German-English by a writer with an agenda was "fabricated disease." In the context of his other claims it seems he thought it was too often diagnosed and medicated. So what? When are you going to deal with all the lies and misleading claims of your original source? He is not the father of ADHD, there is no indication that he personally profited from the diagnosis, this was not stated on his death bed and he did not say it was a "fictitious disease."

I am sorry, you chose such a lousy source to make your point. It's not my fault and no one is under any obligation to let you slander others just because there was some "sorta" truthful information in it.

1 Slander is verbal, libel is written
2 If you look at the subject title I said before his death, deathbed is journalistic licence
3 He was speaking to Der Spiegel in German (as an Ashkenazi Jew he was a fluent Yiddish speaker from childhood)
4 You are a blubbering vagina (Thanks Grind for that one)
5 See 4

Focus and concentration are like anything else. The more you do it and the more intensely you do it the better you get at it over time. If you don't do it often..then you tend to have the attention span of a gnat.

mott what the fuck would you know. I don't need your non-a.d.d.-splaining.

It's not about unwillingness, certain things become almost impossible tasks. It's very hard for those that don't have it to understand.

1. Who gives a fuck? Am I formally accusing you of an actionable offense.
2. Bullshit, death bed was used in the article and is nothing but a lie intended to create intrigue that did not exist.
3. What is your source for this information?

You didn't read my posts. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. Try focusing on something longer than it takes to play a video game and do that everyday...pretty soon you'll get better at it. This isn't rocket science...IT'S CALLED WORK!

Odd as it may sound, I attribute a lot of this problem to the advent of VCRs, DVD players, etc.

When folks my age were kids and watched television, we had to pay attention. Because once we missed something, it was gone forever.

Parents now can plop kids in front of TV sets and the kids don't have to worry about focusing. If they miss something, they can always get it right back.

Nah I don't buy that. I think ADHD has more to do with normal to high levels of testosterone in boys. Hard physical activity either by sport or by work normally gets tremendous results with hyperactive young males who lack focus and the ability to concentrate. Exercise or physical work burns up the excess testosterone.

I know it worked for me. I has acacemic problems in elementary school that drove my teachers nuts as I always had some of the top scores in standardized tests but I couldn't sit still and I was like three years ahead of everyone else on what we were studying. Needless to say my grades suffered. Starting in 7th grade I started wrestling and my academic performance improved dramatically.

I had a similiar problem in grad school where the level of focus required is beyond description. Once I started running 5K every morning and after school my performance improved. I was able to focus longer, harder and with a greater degree of intensity.
