Responsible Gun Owner Dad Takes Kids Shooting In Park Filled With Other Kids!

I have no problem with people telling me how they feel or would feel, but I DO have a problem when they presume to know how I would feel or react to anything.

You were the one who got all bent out of shape because I said those parents were 'terrorized' by an incident that should have never happened. What really bothers me is I have read on right wing websites where people are going after the parents. They did NOTHING wrong...NOTHING. The father who brought that gun to a playground was completely at fault.

BTW, I am not the only one to use the word 'terrorized'...

Father, daughter fire off pellet gun in crowded Ditmars Park

A nearby mother said she 'thought (she) was hallucinating' after witnessing the bizarre father-daughter exchange. Cops didn't arrive for an hour and the 'knucklehead' was gone.

A man and his young daughter terrorized a crowded Queens playground Tuesday when the dad fired a pellet gun that looked like a real firearm, frightened parents said.

The father whipped out the plastic gun, which resembled a .38-caliber pistol, in Astoria’s Ditmars Park around noon, witnesses said. He then spent popped off shots at a nearby tree, the website Queens Mamas reported.

It gets worse. The bad dad eventually handed over the gun to his little girl, who rode around on her bicycle pointing it at a pair of 2-year-olds playing, witnesses said.

Horrified parents called the cops, who took more than an hour to arrive.

The gunman’s wife, who would not give her name, admitted Tuesday night that her husband may have used poor judgment.

“I agree the gun looks real,” she said, adding that her older son purchased the piece at a street fair in Poland. “They shouldn’t have brought it to the playground.”

Maria, the frightened mother, was less diplomatic. “That man is nuts. He’s dangerous.”

Wow, this is it? Rana, you've really dropped your level of humanity in my eyes with this. I would never call anybody names based on questions they are asking.

I'm asking a question. I'm not reading the thread, not going to either, I want a synopsis.

a father and his kid went to a public park where other parents and kids were hanging out... he pulled out a pellet gun which looked like a replica .38 pistol... and he started shooting it... parents were freaked out and grabbed their kids...

And when they realized it was a toy did they realize they had overreacted or did they call the cops on somebody for playing with a toy? From the one or two posts I read as I went along I was sure I read that somebody called the cops because a responsible father took his kid to a park and played with a toy.

And when they realized it was a toy did they realize they had overreacted or did they call the cops on somebody for playing with a toy?

well...it WAS a pellet gun and not a toy per se... and, I think they called the cops before they knew one way or the other. They were scared, and gun nuts here are laughing at parents being frightened of a man pulling out a gun and starting shooting in a public park...

Damo, from all I can tell it was an Airsoft type of gun that shoots plastic pellets. I agree with those that think the dad was an idiot but I don't agree that e should ave been arrested. A fine, maybe ... But not arrested. It was and still is a toy from what I have read.

You just can comprehend the fact parents in that park didn't know the gun wasn't a real, lethal weapon. After the fact information is irrelevant. The father screwed up BIG time. It may not be a real .38 caliber handgun, but it is more than a 'toy'. Pawlowski was also charged with possession of an illegal BB gun.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Pawlowski is personally responsible to know the laws. If he doesn't like NYC laws, he should move to a town where the pickup line at the local bar is "nice TOOTH"

Rubbish, they describe him pointing it at a tree and firing it. The gun didn't go boom... It was clear it was not a firearm.

Airsoft are designed with small, soft, plastic pellets so you can play with them without hurting each other. Stop getting hysterical and use that mind god gave you. When he fired the weapon and it made almost no noise at all did they think he was magic or did they realize it was a toy?

There is NOTHING about the physical appearance of the gun that would indicate it was not a real handgun...no bright colored barrel tip etc.

Right, that's where I'm starting from. I read an article about this, but not the thread. I will admit I didn't read most of the thread. You get a look-alike gun you should be careful where you play. I get that. But once the other parents realized it was a toy, which had to be early on unless they literally had a brain deficit disorder, why continue to get all bent? Tasteless maybe, but certainly not criminal, nor do I have to act like my kid was in danger when he wasn't.

and why in the world are you expecting a bunch of parents of little kids to be all calm and rational, in this post Columbine, post Aurora, post Sandy Hook world, when they see some guy pull a gun out of his pocket at a park filled with THEIR kids?

Not everyone saw him fire it at the tree. Then he eventually handed over the gun to his little girl, who rode around on her bicycle pointing it at a pair of 2-year-olds playing, witnesses said.

Yeah I knew you read it and were putting on your clueless rube act. You do the "where am I? Who am I? How did I get here?" act pretty good. But I can always see through it I don't know why.

Because I expect people to be rational regardless of Sandy Hook. It's inane to pretend your kid is in danger when it is obvious they weren't.

Nice attempt to cover for Rana. I'm not buying it any more than you are pretending not to "buy" what I haven't even sold. She knows I'll never react in kind, I'm a safe target for that kind of nastiness.

It's Clueless Rube (hat tip zap). He doesn't really expect that. He'd go nuts if someone did that to his daughter. He gets it. But that's not fun and that would put him on the liberal "side" on this thread so Clueless Rube makes an appearance
