Church Refuses to Conduct Weddings!

It's not that I don't 'get' the equal sign, it is appearing on more and more communications lately.
My question is simple.
With what do you people who use it wish to be equal?
Women? They are not equal.
Non white people? They are not equal.
Disabled people? They are not equal.
Chinese people are not equal to Vietnamese, Americans to Canadians, French to Germans, Italians to Swiss.
Society is not equal, I'd like to feel equal. I'd like to be equal to bankers, I'd like to have the brains of a top scientist, the speed of Ussain Bolt, the experience of Commander Chris Hadfield, but I can't.
I am with the woman I love and have been married to her for 46 years. Few people can be the equal of that. I have had a massive heart attack, walk a mile per day and could fall down dead at any time. Not many people would want to be equal to that.
No. Equal is a lie.
Two people of the same gender wish to spend their lives together? Why the hell not? They want the same rights in law as heterosexual couples, sure, why not? They want the same problems as mixed religion marriages, of mixed race marriages, of mixed culture marriages, of mixed height, weight, intelligence marriages? We should not even be discussing the subject. To discuss it confirms it as a potential problem.
It's not a problem to most people of average or above intelligence and it certainly is not a problem for me.

.

I agree wholeheartedly with the bold print.

The rest of the stuff about equality is wishful thinking. But I am not campaigning for everyone to be able to run as fast as Bolt or whatever. I am campaigning so that our gov't recognizes us all equally.

Until they can do all weddings! Good for them!

Equal rights, folks!

In no way does this change whether or not you can be happy this is about money and money only, just like abortion, marriage is not covered in the constitution, it is a religious institution, which was then bastardized to make money for the states, it is completely about the tax breaks, and benefits, anything else is a lie.

Then we should be working to remove the licensing from the marriage process and eliminating the benefits that the states bestow on married couples. That way it will be strictly a religious institution. Until we remove the federal, state and local gov'ts from the equation, it is not strictly a religious institution.

Little known fact:

Within the gay community one who "cuts firewood" is known to only suck circumcised dick.

I'm sure you have all sorts of odd rules and traditions in your sick little world that I care nothing about, and I'm certainly not going to dedicate memory cells to learning them. :cof1:

Burning wood isn't backward when you have a catalytic stove. Not taking advantage of local resources, now that's backward.

So you collect wood and light fires and huddle round them in the cold weather. Mmm. That's so-o-o-o macho.
We have central heating and air conditioning. Do you have that in America yet? Then we can spend the time you spend in blowing for a flame reading and going out to enjoy ourselves.
But, no, lets not belittle you too much. I'm sure lighting fires makes you feel like a real backwoodsman. So-o-o-o impressed. Jolly good.

OK, but that is how it started, then the government saw a way to make money

No surprise there. Gov'ts have always tried to tax everything and make money.

But it is really not part of this discussion unless you are willing to join with me in removing the gov't from the institution of marriage and have all the straight couples forego the benefits they receive from being married.

Exactly, thats my position. We really have two options, 1) The government gets out of the Marriage business, which I belive would be a mistake.

or

2) Open the door to at least same sex partners.

I disagree. I think getting the gov't out of the institution of marriage would be good for marriages in general.
