Church Refuses to Conduct Weddings!

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (CBS Charlotte/AP) - A local church has elected to stop performing marriage ceremonies for straight couples until same-sex marriage is legalized.



In a statement posted on the front page of their website, officials at the Green Street United Methodist Church said that they ask other churches to join in the movement to “refuse to sign any State marriage licenses until this right is granted to same- sex couples.”

Who is stopping them from performing ceremonies where homosexuals get "married"? I'd bet there is no law against it. There isn't one here, even though the CO Constitution has a "no marriage" clause. You can get married, it is whether or not the government recognizes it or not that the "fight" is over. (Recently passed a 'civil union' which grants the same rights under a different name. Which IMO sucks. They should just stop "registering" people's relationships to begin with, IMO. The state doesn't have a right to define the relationships of consenting adults.)

While I am on the side of liberty, and believe that anybody with informed consent should be allowed to marry so long as they are of consenting age, it is silly to think this is a "challenge" of some sort to some governmental authority.
 
Churches are not public organizations.They are private groups. They have the right to their religious view point.On the other hand those who don’t like those religious ideas have the right to have some place that will do the mirages.

This was about MARRIAGES, not MIRAGES; unless you made a freudian slip and really are a homophobe. :palm:
