not pretending. you really didn't explain that well. marriage is nothing more than a contract requiring a marriage license (which I still think the government shouldn't be able to mandate), but in most states possessing a gun requires a license also, so that 'state of being' is being in possession of a gun. how is that different?

One can legally divest themselves of a gun without a court order, one cannot divest themselves of a spouse without a court order. Does that make it any more clear in your head?

But it bugs the shit out of me when people like Portman are stricken with a sudden bout of empathy for people just like them or their immediate family members. We do all the time but we've also known each other, partied with each other, etc. It's not the thing for anonymous forums with nutcases like ILA, USF and 007 running around. We also use a lot of self-restraint.
