The Earth has been getting warmer

Let's go at this another way. What are you doing to mitigate your carbon footprint? Would you go as far as getting rid of your electronic devices as they contribute greatly to pollution requiring fossil fuels to produce and electricity to run. Would you move into a 100 sq/foot flat?

What have you done?

Me? I don't do anything. I use the resources I want, when I want. I have a huge carbon footprint and I love every second of it. It is clear that we aren't going to change each others mind on this issue, which is what makes life grand. We are all free to have our own opinions on these issues. I think from a compromise standpoint, we can come up with a solution. I will list those things I have that drive up my carbon footprint and you can try to offset it.

I have a Chevy Tahoe 5.3L
I have a GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L
I have a Ford F250 Powerstroke Diesel for hauling
I have four snow mobiles
I have six four wheelers for mountain trails
I burn wood, but I also have solar and hydro for electrical purposes for my off grid property.

Let's start there ok puddin pop?

I live in a society obviously much more civilised than yours. I do not own any car. I have no need to 'haul' anything. Most of our taxis, which are quite cheap, run on LPG. Many company vehicles (large corps) are electric. There is no need for us to burn anything at all but should we come across a wandering yank we might make an exception.
So my carbon footprint is already very small and I dont even try.
Do you want me to be impressed by the fact that you have all those 'vee-hickles'? OK. I am. very impressed. very very impressed. How long will it be before you are old enough to drive them?

That was hilarious Low. I particularly love the hauling stuff line. That's a thing here in America. Anytime I have ever heard it, I have been befuddled. I have never had any need to "haul stuff" either. I don't really even know what it means. But it's a thing.

I think LPG is a very viable option and should be explored over scams like electric cars and ethanol.

I don't expect you to be impressed. I just want you to offset my footprint.

Tahoe is for wife. Sierra is mine for gettin around. F250 is for towing.

I am very civilized

I do try to recycle and cut down my footprint but things are getting a bit ridiculous. When I purchased my home 12 years ago it had a stove like this in the basement rec room.

One stipulation to buying the home was the stove/installation had to be approved by the insurance company. The seller installed a tile fire wall one inch from the gyprock (plasterboard) walls, tiled the floor around the stove and had a new stainless steel chimney installed. Two years ago the city outlawed wood burning stoves. The old ones were grandfathered in. If/when the time comes this one can not be replaced. However, it is lined with fire brick so I imagine it will outlast me.

In any case they will have to pry it out of my really cold, dead hands. When the temp falls to -22C or -7F as it is going to to do tonight I have a roaring fire going. The master bedroom is directly above the stove so the floor, room and bed are nice and toasty when I crawl in beside the Mrs. :) There are certain sacrifices I refuse to make!

By tomorrow morning the fire will have died and the gas furnace will be running.

What on earth do you tow? Slaves?

You have to take your boat home? Don't you have marinas and things? Really glad I turned left out of England and not right!

Evidently, in that vast amount of education that you rely on, you were never informed about the fact that the US has many small lakes and riverways, that don't always have marinas and such.
But then, you are British and aren't really educated in much, outside of your own pathetic has been island. :D

Plus; if someone is living in New Mexico and they want to go fishing in Montana, how would you suggest in getting the boat from Point A to Point B?

Now add in that the entire UK is smaller then the State of Oregon. :chesh:

US explained it nicely. I also like to tow the snow mobiles and four wheelers. I like to travel the US. No need to leave here. I can't bring my four wheelers to your shitbag country.

See? Not everything about america is bad. They keep you in with promises of ice cream and snowmen and regular visits to toys r us and you need NEVER leave. Fantastic. You wouldn't like it anyway. Most americans who come here are fairly intelligent. Of course that doesn't include the tourists who are fat, loud, arrogant and stupid and always, but always leave with less money than they intended. Or the navy dummies who think all the girls really, honestly love them long time. The biggest mugs who ever walked. Thanks for that.

You have to work quite hard to have fun in america, don't you? And snow? You CHOOSE to live in the snow. You must be as mad as a sack of cats.
How do you make a sandwich? Keep the bread in Texas and the filling in Ohio?
In one hour or less I can watch sport, go onshore, deep sea or fresh water fishing, go to the cinema, the theatre or concerts. I can attend lectures and discussions, I can go to thousands of pubs and restaurants. I dont need a car. I dont need to tow anything. I dont need to shovel snow, own a gun, go to church. I dont need to be frightened to walk in town at night. I do not need to worry about my daughter's safety nor that of my wife or grandchildren. I can get the food I need within a five minute walk, see my mates for a beer overlooking a marina second only to Monaco, make money without paying tax and generally just kick back and enjoy.
But I'll think of you driving all aver the place, scared to leave home without a gun, clearing snow and chopping trees. You go your way and I'll go mine. Its New Year next week, I have two banquets booked and want no more. I received presents yesterday of a nice bottle of red and a box of hand made chocolate truffles. Toodle-oo dummy.

You finally said something I agree with. I love the snow. It is beautiful and there is nothing like being out one snow mobile.

I dont have use for the theater or concerts well, except country and western singers. I have no use to attend lectures or discussions. I love nature and being outside when i can I like to hunt, kill and field dress my own food. You rely on others. Good on ya. The difference is that I don't belittle your lifestyle. You seem to think that those who are not like you are beneath you. You sir are a snob.

And so very much to be snobbish about.

"...really, honestly love them long time..."

Is that what your American GI father told your mother, just before he parted with some of his money?

I remember waking up on cold winter mornings, getting bundled up, and walking onto the back porch.
The ground, as far as you could see, was blanketed in a glistening layer that looked like diamonds.
If you stood there long and quiet enough. and if you were lucky, you might be able to see and hear a deer walking along, breaking through the crunchy top layer of snow, as it walked through a thicket.

At times; you would be so alone, that it was like being on an alien world.
