I'll be damned...the most brutal of the Delhi gang rapists is Muslim.

You often hear many people, including women, feminists, etc referring to a rape culture. If you live in a society that is very misogynistic which trivializes rape, or punishes the victims, or makes the victims targets for more abuse, then yes It's very plausible and even likely that islamic cultures in particular (but also western cultures) can have very big impacts on the degree of rape that is present.

These cultures are heavily influenced by their religion, and to deny that is foolish.

Islamic cultures in particular routinely treat many of the women like cattle. Many of those countries justify the use of burkas because otherwise "men wouldn't be able to control themselves." If you are a women and raped, your family may disown you. In some of those cultures, you may be forced to marry your rapist, or you could be simply killed by your own family members. There isn't much incentive for victims in these countries to even come forward.

So to answer both your questions, yes, I do believe that such a difference could very easily close that gap, and yes, I do believe the religion, which directly influences those cultures (often being the primary influence) permeates their society, and has a very big effect on rape statistics.

There's nothing here I disagree with.

What bothers me is when men go on rants about Islam and then use that to trivialize the still terrible levels of sexual abuse and violence against women in the west. You haven't done that, but it's rampant on this board.

It's also very transparent. And offensive. Because it's announcing you don't care about women, you don't care about sexual violence, you don't care about abuse...you have a political agenda. And that's offensive, and I personally find it enraging.

But while highliging the underreporting of rape in Muslim countries, or non-Muslim countries like India, it's also important to remember that rape is very underreported right here! And then maybe question why. But few men want to ask those questions. They don't like the answers.

Why don't you sit back and make comments about Ohio values? And I don't mean jokes about Mott. Have you seen that? christie posted it. Or are those football values? Is there a culture of violence against women in American sports?

How about you guys discuss that?

Why, I happen to have found that thread about Ohio values to be an utter joy! The news story thread, not so much, because it is obviously a tragic story when these things happen and some institution interferes with justice. Perhaps we can annoy Christie with questions about the quarterback of her beloved Steelers, though, eh?

Lets face the simple truth, All religion has been and in many places still is evil but make no mistake that the evil makes up only a small minority and all to commonly is used by wrack job's to spread there own deplorable views and as an excuse for there act's.

For those that are so anti Muslim, How about Kony? He has been at it for decades using Christianity as a reason to massacre Muslim families, Or even the Crusades all those years ago? Fact is no religion is innocent, Yes some are living in the past but that situation could easily have been reversed and had the Muslim faith largely progressed while the Christians lived in the 1400's... Forget the religious argument, Throw that out the window and work with them to create change at a social level, Not a religious one.

I agree. And all religions are patriarchal. Which is where this all starts.

Is that the guy my brothers call Rapeburger?

I'm sure Christie isn't a fan.

No one here will ever know it simply because we do not have a diverse enough community for this to have come up, but I become just as enraged at people who respond to this by posting that we didn't pass the violence against women act so we have no room to talk. Responses like this always remind me of I guess about 10 years ago when a Yale feminist student was protesting against some sexist policy or other at Yale (and the policy was sexist, and i agreed with her, to be clear), and was asked why she didn't protest a male Muslim student's recent comments about women. And she refused. I have contempt for that.

I have equal contempt for the sexist man who makes rape jokes, trivializes rape, enforces rape culture, and is a rape apologist, who screams and rants about rape in other countries and demands that American feminists address it. He uses this to trivialize American feminism, American feminists, and violence against women in this and other western countries. To me, he is the woman mentioned above. She is him. Both have political agendas. The only difference is, she has probably never raped anybody...I cannot say the same for him.

I argue with women who express those views all of the time. None of them post here. I refuse to ever clap like a fucking monkey for male sexists here who demand I "denounce" something in another country. They can roundly go fuck themselves sideways.

When I see a rape and torture and murder like this, or a gang rape like the one in Ohio, or any act of violence like these, I am shaken inside. I cry. These women, all of them, are me. I am them. I feel that all Americans need to read "Dark End of the Street: Black women, Rape, and Resistance" which chronicles the systemic use of rape as a terrorist tactic in the apartheid south. It's important history to know because this history still echoes through to today, in every way. There is no way to read this book without crying many times, and feeling crumpled on the ground next to the victims. Because they are me, I am them.

This is the true feeling of sisterhood, that I believe is similar to what BAC means when he calls people here "brother". Few seem to understand it and many mock it "the sistahs" dripping with their hate. But that is what it is. It is not an ideology, it is not intellectual, it is not plotting against men...it is a feeling, not a thought. A feeling at the most visceral level that I am her and she is me.

And that is that! Now you can all carry on, as I have learned better than to argue with the digusting people here on this subject.

I am confused by this OP. There is no link. Am I to understand that a young girl was gang raped and murdered by six men. That one out of the SIX men was a Muslim, and this proves...that five of them weren't Muslim??

Is there a point here???
Yes that muslims are evil vile rapist. Consider the source Darla. The poster is another mouth breathing southern conservative trailer park resident.

Well, Darla, we have kind of been working on it since at least 1919. Just because the job's not finished, I don't see why we Western men can't occasionally sit back to a crate of beers, an afternoon of football, and make derisive comments about Muslim values during the commericals (commericals which do, admittedly, contain such material as those embarrasingly sexist Dr. Pepper 10 ads that drive me off the wall).

:tv:
Personally I think it's more fun to make fun of bead jigglers and mackeral snappers and grown men who take advise about women from a celibate conservative old transvestite who wears a beanie.

India was named the worst G20 country for women. But India is not a Muslim country. You can twist and dance all you want (they do have the second largest Mulsim population), but they are not a Muslim country. So that is very interesting.

I am not one who would argue that fanatical Islam is not, bar none, the worst circumstances a woman can live under. But it's important to understand that this mean fanatical Islam only, and that further, many non-Muslim countries are horrific places for women to live.

And most importantly...American and other Western men should clean up their own backyards first. Your yards are not clean boys! Far from it. There is a saying; let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

Look to yourself first. Some of you right here are absolutely deplorable. Simply deplorable. A few of you are outright animals.
What's ironic to me Darla is that both Islam and Cathalocisms are the two religions which have the least respect for women and give them the status of chattel property yet guess who the most devoted believers of Islam and Catholicism are?

I believe the point he made was that the most vicious of the attackers was a Muslim. I don't know if that is true as he didn't provide any evidence. What is true though is that a metal rod was inserted into her and the intestines and internal organs were so severely damaged that she died as a result.

There has been a huge rise in rapes in Scandinavian countries since Muslim men arrived in large numbers in recent years especially against children. This ties in with the widespread practice in Muslim countries of Mufa'khathat or thighing. It is mainly because of political correctness and the policy of not interfering in cultural differences that has ignored this for so long.

I found the thread and those are not "Ohio" values. The values of white people in Ohio that the author was referencing would undoubtably have been in western Ohio which is rural/small town and predomnantly Catholic. So those are not "Ohio" values but Catholic ones.

It has come out that the 6th accused in the violent Delhi gang rape is a Muslim. Unsurprisingly, 17-year-old Mohammed Afroz was also the most brutal of the group. The youth raped the victim twice, including with an iron rod, and pulled out part of the victim's intestines with his bare hands.

The war on women is very real. However, the words of a few right-wing US politicians pale in comparison to the actions of radical Muslim men around the world. Hatred and oppression of women is the foundation of their religion.

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that all Muslim men are pigs. But I would suggest that a disproportionate number of them are pigs, when compared to men of other religions. Of all the major religions, Islam is most hostile toward women, and I don't think any sane person would deny that.
I'm sorry but I just don't see any discernable difference between Muslims and Catholics except that Muslims don't have quite the record for violence and murder that Catholics have.

I know Mott. I don't think that what happened to this young woman represents "Muslim values" either. I don't even get it, since five of the six weren't Muslim? But even if all six were Muslim, this wouldn't represent Muslim values anymore than what happened in Ohio represents Ohio values. Catholic values God help us, that is a whole other kettle of fish. But let's face it, sticking a steel rod inside of a human being and murdering them with it, does that really represent any culture or any country's values? Even in India this has caused an uproar that may very well change the country. And women in India are treated horribly. Yet even there, people are blanching over this.

God sakes this was six, not ONE, but six, outright psychopaths. God bless the victim. I am so sorry for her.

Agreed. That's what I find offensive about the OP. The OP's implication is that Muslims are rapist base upon the actions of a few or in this case one. That would be like implying child rape is a Catholic value because a significant number of their priest are pedophiles.
