Romney's '47 percent' chosen as year's best quote

Can't find the link from the article I used, but here's a table that confirms.

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/numbers/displayatab.cfm?DocID=3057

If this ABC News article is accurate they claim the number is only 17,000.

""But it's not just low-income people who get out of paying income taxes. About 1 percent of the top 1 percent of income earners, those making about $533,000 or more, did not pay income taxes. That's roughly 13,000 tax filers.

And 4,000 millionaires are also escaping that burden, according to a Tax Policy Center analysis.""

For 2011, there were 4,000 tax units with incomes in excess of $1 million that didn't have any federal income tax liability. There were another 14,000 that earned btween $500,000 and $1 million in 2011 that had no federal income tax liability. And there were another 54,000 tax units in 2011 earning between $200,000 and $500,000 that had no income tax liability.

See Table 1 at the link below.

It was also kinda funny when Palin was asked what publications she read, and she replied that she read all of them.

And the Bush Doctrine stuff. That campaign was actually pretty hilarious in a lot of unintentional ways.

Really? So people who live in Gateway, Alaska can see Russia? 1700 miles away?
If you'd note he (Jarod) said she could see Alaska from her house.

Anybody who lives in Alaska can see Alaska from their house. Just like I can see Colorado from my house. In fact, all I can see from my house is Colorado.

Secondly, she never, ever said that she could see Russia from her house. That was a Saturday Night Live skit, one where Tina Fey said that..

Thank you, Carnac.

I'm sure he will say you are welcome, nor do we believe you are so unintelligent that you don't actually understand what Romney actually meant rather than how you want it to mean. I know it is more fun to pretend...

Gore never said he invented the internet.
Obama never said that Small business owners did not build their businesses...

Bravo, you idiot, you are among the 47%.
There was no spinning needed whatsoever, Romney himself was clear as day, 47% of the people in this country don't matter to him whatsoever, since they wouldn't vote for him.
He accidentaly told a fatal truth about himself, end of story. The only "spin" going on here is yours, and it is beyond idiotic.

Taken out of context to promote a lie...

Correct. He actually said 'I don't care about them'.

Taken out of context to promote a lie...

Here is the entire comment made by Romney. Sure, it's about taxes, but it's about a lot more than taxes. I've highlighted sections of the "speech" that signify what, exactly, offended the working class and retired of this country. These words underscore Romney's utter disdain for those less fortunate than him.

Taken out of context to promote a lie...

Next, let's take a look at those comments:

See comments in above posts...

This is why Romney lost the election.

The statement speaks for itself....
You start with a fact and then make a 'but' to insert you strawman crap....

"Sure, it's about taxes, but it's about a lot more than taxes"

Yes, its about taxes, taxes and voters....and about nothing else...and any other embellishment is a lie.

people vote their with their wallet....thats been claimed by both R's and D's a hundred years....
I'll assume the quote is accurate...and its clearly about taxes and taxpayers and their votes....nothing more, nothing less...

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they’re entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you-name-it, —it’s entitlement, and the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. And that—I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect. So he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean, that’s what they sell every four years. And so, my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. What I have to do is convince the 5 to 10 percent in the center. "

Everything he said is true in its proper context and taking phrases "out of context" as fodder for your list of lies to build strawmen is typical of pinheads....

Politicians that dare try to cut into a voters entitlements risk losing that vote...promoting an issue that has no effect on a voter will not win that voter to your side unless its promotes class warfare...a tactic thats been working for Communists, Socialists and now Democrats for decades....its even been the cause of armed revolutions in the past....

Entitlements buy votes....its that simple and Democrats are putting that simple truth to good use in every election....

More benefits for more and more people.....tax the wealthy.

This isn't a secret....everyone knows it....the D's speak openly about it everyday of every week.....its undeniable.
Look at the statistics on entitlements, from food stamps, Housing Choice Vouchers(Section 8 ), the entitlement list is like a small novel...

Ignoring the truth won't change it....

yes...that's the link I originally used. That shows those who made 1/2 million or more. Refer to the table I posted, which is probably the same one that Thing offered.

1. That was a god awful quote from Romney and he deserves all the mocking he gets from it.

2. Not surprising ken can't understand the quote. The quote wasn't about the number of Americans it was about taxpayers. Around 140 million individual tax returns are filed each year. Of that number 47% don't pay federal income tax. The 47% number doesn't include babies and children. Not that hard to understand.

while babies and children (without worker and/or investment income) are not included, they are represented on their parent's income tax forms...as deductions

my wife and i are part of the 47% that do not pay taxes because our combined taxable income is below the minimum taxable income after deductions (ss is non-taxable), however, we pay over $600/month for medicare (advantage) plus our prescriptions

and we pay over $6,600 in property taxes on our home, and two rental homes

oh well

Those who used these quotes against the President and Vice President Gore have no grounds to complain about the 47% comment.

Jesus dude, if you are too fucking retarded to see that when he said 'people' he meant 'tax payers' then that is on you. And understanding that doesn't change a damn thing he said or how stupid his statement was.

I am not too stupid to see that both of those things are true. I never said differently.

I'll tell you why I strongly disagree with it. The Republican message has been one of anyone in this country can live the American dream. Romney's comment was the opposite of that. He essentially said these 47% don't want to better themselves and there's nothing we can do about it. The other mistake he made is thinking that those in the that 47% can't see the big picture and would only accept tax cuts if it affects them personally. I disagree with that as well. That would be like me saying 'well because I don't make $250k a year I should support raising taxes on those who do'.

To me he completely blew it with that comment.

i disagree with you about the rep message...the rep message is no black president, stay at home wives, tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations and to generally keep things the way they remember them, i.e., the 'good old days' when white males ruled things and women and 'coloreds' knew their place

however, i agree that whatever chance he had, he blew with the 47% remark, despite rep efforts to prevent dem voting blocks from voting

You're wrong about the no black President DQ. Like Darla said she wants a female President but she wants her to be a Democrat. Republicans are no different.

As for the rest you're entitled to your opinion.

Oh this is freaking me out - I said that here? I said that on the Huffpo. You are not stalking me there are you? I don't remember saying it here!

Haha, I tried the stalking thing but wasn't very good at it! I'm pretty sure it was in a thread about Hilllary and if she would run or not and I asked you if you had a preference for Hillary or Elizabeth Warren and that's when you made the above response.

The pinheads live in world of lies....lies of their own making.....and no matter how many times you show then the truth, it never makes a difference....
Close minds in the extreme....
