Our Military...

Yippee-skippee, an exception to the rule.

So how then do you suppose to weed out thought? What level of "racism" would be considered good enough to deny service to? Suppose I were to say that statistics show black men are more likely to commit crime than white men? This is certainly true (as it's linked to socio-economic status), but would it disqualify me from service? And if we're going that route, the route that leads to punishment for 1st amendment and 9th amendment rights, what other opinions should be barred? What about anyone who might be ideologically opposed war? Remember what happens when you set precedents. They can easily be used against you and your cause when the next administration comes to power.

Go watch the videos in the OP and read the interview. Then come back and try to convince me there's nothing that can be done about this problem.

Your tax dollars do. :)

Also, to support the troops does not mean accepting racism or other terrible attributes of individual soldiers. It means supporting those who have chosen to serve. If you choose not to do so, that is fine. I, on the other hand, see that most of the people in ouir military are fine citizens, and I will not disparage them for the actions of a few.
Which brings up the fact that a report of right wingnuttery is a terrorist threat in this country and the department that produced the report was targeted by the RW blogs and MSM. Why was that? It's become part of our national culture on the right. Have you listened to the interview?

Did you serve with tatooed Nazi's, militant christian nationalists and gun runners? I remember the Madison, I think lol...sailors run in my family. My ex served on the USS Hancock.

I don't recall any swastika tattoos, but we had a few KKK members on the crew. Or at least they claimed to be. I didn't hang around them much as they dislike the fact that I had kicked the shit out of two of their fellow "Klanners" before I joined.

I remember a few fundamentalist christians who thought we should execute gays and that the law of the land should be biblical. As for gun runners, I have no idea. Given that we went out and cruised around in big circles, being as quiet as possible, and only hit two ports, it would be hard to run guns on duty.

The USS Hancock was carrier, wasn't it? The CO of the Madison had a fondness for carriers. We once found ourselves in the middle of a NATO training exercise in the North Atlantic. He had us come to periscope depth in the wake of the JFK and snapped a pic of her stern. When we got back to port he mailed it to the CO of the Kennedy with the words "Gotcha" written on it. CINCLANT went nuts.

I have no idea why they did that. I would guess it was during that "If you question the administration you are not a patriot" bullshit that seemed so prevelant during George W's reign.

You've been answered, before the Bush administration these people and their hate were not retained in the military, now they are accommodated...don't forget there are others brought into the military (ie gang members) that are changing the culture as well. Our military should not have these types included. You obviously have no understanding of the military.

did you happen to note the dates of this guys service? 1992-1998

That's funny...yes it was a carrier.

I met some klan members too but they were derided and marginalized....now I guess they can openly evangelize. It's pretty easy to suss out these things and back in the day groups of these people would have been sent packing. They should still be sent packing...why would it benefit our country to give such people military training? These people kill and violently attack people. They're advocates for the worst kind of hate.

THANK YOU.

Yes. So this culture started earlier than 2000 but it seems to have progressed exponentially.

Yes, that would seem to be the case. But recruiting standards were lowered to continue to be able to fight in two wars. When people think they can join and serve without dying, its easier to get them to sign up. Not so much when the news is full or extended deployments and body counts.

Extremely bad policy that needs to be addressed along with many other things. Do you think the GOP dominated congress will climb out of women's uterus' long enough to address it...
