Stop Press: The number of dead has risen to 14 and around 50 injured.

A fatal shooting has taken place at a midnight showing of new Batman film ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in Denver, Colorado. It is now being reported by local media that at least 10 people have died with many more injured. Police have confirmed that one suspect is in custody but it's been reported that a man hunt may be under way for a second attacker. A witness told CNN that they saw a "guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people".

Local radio station KOA broke the story, citing witnesses who had seen a figure in a gas mask set off a smoke or tear gas bomb before opening fire at random. It’s believed that around 50 people were involved in the attack.

The fatal shooting occurred at a midnight screening of the highly anticipated movie, which was being held in a Denver, Colorado shopping mall. Brenda Stuart, from KOA Radio, told Sky News: "This started with a midnight showing of the new ‘Dark Knight’ movie and the theatres were packed that were showing this movie. "People inside tell us they thought it was part of the movie. They heard what they thought were firecrackers, loud bangs and all of a sudden they saw the bullets flying. "Police officers are carting the injured to the hospital in their own cars, not waiting for the ambulances."

The crime scene is still being treated as active and the mall has been closed off. A makeshift hospital has been set up to tend to the wounded with sniffer dogs reportedly in action to search for any potential explosive devices.

I was kind of shocked. A Movie Theater. I can't say it never crossed my mind that it could happen, but the reality feels shocking. Especially, there were kids. It makes me feel like I can't even bring my niece and nephew to a movie. It's something that actually scares me and not that much does anymore because I am not really afraid of dying. What kind of a diseased mind does this? What do people get out of this?

I am saddened by the loss of life, but the act itself does not surprise me. This is why I have a concealed carry permit. Lots of different reporting going on, but I heard that there was a 3 month old that was injured and my first thought was "who the fuck takes a 3 month old to see a Batman movie?" Get a freaking baby sitter or don't go.

So sad that your immediate knew jerk reaction is to make a political point trying to further your nazi agenda. Not even a hint of compassion for the victims.

You are vile.
One can have compasson for the victims, any decent person does but look at the carnage cause by gun violence.
It's routine. More of the norm then the excepton to the norm. there was a shooting in a bar this week, i forget where , there are so many.

can't get them back.

violence is violence. It doesn't matter the weapon of choice. There is no way of preventing violence. there are only ways of defending ones self from being a victim of it.

I think one would have a stronger argument blaming our decaying culture than the actual gun. But, given the socialists nazi proclivity to want to ban our only method of self defense, I am not surprised by the simplistic thinking.

Gee, how could one wonder how these things happen? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the violent images that children are exposed to at such a young age? Nope, it has to be the guns.

From the article

I will attempt to confine my plot spoilers to the opening: the film begins with a heist carried out by men in sinister clown masks. As each clown completes a task, another shoots him point-blank in the head. The scene ends with a clown – The Joker – stuffing a bomb into a wounded bank employee's mouth. After the murderous clown heist, things slip downhill. A man's face is filleted by a knife, and another's is burned half off. A man's eye is slammed into a pencil. A bomb can be seen crudely stitched inside another man's stomach, which subsequently explodes. A trussed-up man is bound to a chair and set alight atop a pile of banknotes.

two things.

1) who did people call to try to stop this episode?

They called the police.

2) why were so many killed and injured?

The assailant obviously had automatic weapons.

If your point is that everybody should have been armed, I vehemently disagree, and, in my opinion, that perspective is why thousands and thousands of people die by guns every year in this country.
