Are fireworks too dangerous to use?

I just did.

Um... Just went back. No post from you.

First I'd like to say that the Feds only pressured, it was town officials that canceled the show. Secondly I'd like to state that this town isn't the only place that fireworks have been used for the past 200 years or so that we've been a nation.

My mistake.

I posted about that in this thread.

Yet you claimed that "it's been happening annually for centuries" in the context of that thread.

Yeah. Real men play with fireworks.

Oh brother. They just banned fireworks in my county yesterday evening. I am a volunteer fireman and I agree with the ban. Until we get some rain shooting fireworks does pose a great fire threat. But an outright ban under any and all circumstances? No way!! Many of us like to shoot fireworks...and our kids like to see them. In fact, our kids like to participate in shooting them. I grew up hauling hay for summer work and the money made from the hay I hauled in the last week of June (a big part of it anyway) was used to buy fireworks of various sorts. Smoke bombs can really make the wasps go nuts and then you can have fun battling them with a tennis racket. (don't tell a liberal because they'll find out that the wasps could sting a fellow and seek to ban them as well as the fireworks) Bottle rockets are really cool and if you get the good ones you can shoot them in the water and they go for bit then...a sort of "bloop"....if its dark you can see how far around the rocket the water lights up.

We've had bans here several times over the years put forth by both political parties (just so you'd know) and you know what? Its common sense that when it's dry you're apt to start a fire with things that fly through the air and emit sparks. Outright bans because someone might hurt themselves or because we might disturb some bird? That won't fly with either political party here and I for one am very glad of it.

You know, talking about some of the things I used to do as a kid with fireworks ..... I think I'll go buy some more and when it rains my boy and I will go find a wasp nest. :)

Dogs and cats bite. You get satisfaction from torturing and killing them?

Yeah, real men know not to be stupid and get hurt playing with fireworks.

Must not have been any real men around when this happened:

A fireworks explosion in Pelham, N.H., sent seven people to hospitals — two of them children — with various injuries, the extent of which police were unable to list tonight, Pelham officials said.

Neighbors reported a series of explosions at a home about 7:32 p.m. which resulted from fireworks igniting in succession, police said.

“It was pretty loud,” said one neighbor who declined to give his name. “There was a boom. We were in the house and we could hear it. There was a smoke cloud too.”

The neighbor said at least four ambulances were outside the home this evening...

Sounds like someone did something stupid. I don't consider idiots to be "real men". lol

It is now.

And I stand by those remarks. I have never been particularly impressed by what other people consider a "real man". Those who try to prove they are, usually aren't.

But being smart enough not to hurt yourelf or people around you when playing with fireworks is pretty basic.

And no, its not part of the topic.

Even though you boasted about being a real man who's smart enough not to do anything stupid?
