That is going to make an interesting court defense. You are claiming that maybe Aldrich went to a gay bar heavily armed, when 24 different people stepped up one at a time and attacked him in a way that threatened his life, but did no harm to him at the same time. He then shot all 24 of these random people, who were not armed, killing 5 of them.
The point of a defense is to create reasonable doubt. Does anyone think that claim is reasonable?

Aldrich had shot 24 people, and was reloading to shoot more. That is the very definition of being an extreme threat to everyone. When disarmed of his rifle, he could have still shot people with his backup gun.
This is the best example of a justifiable self defense homicide I can think of, EXCEPT he was not killed... In fact, he was not even badly injured. Through an abundance of care, he spent a few hours in the hospital, but was released with no real treatment needed. He had a black eye, and a few skin abrasions.
At least 5 of the people he shot could not breath, because they were dead. Many of the 19 who survived probably could not breath either.

Most people's sexuality changes massively with puberty. It then develops beyond that. When a boy is 10, he does not have much interest in sex. When he is 14, he might be interested in 14 year old girls. As he matures beyond that, his sexuality should mature to adult women.

The alt right is taking all sorts of crazy positions on this. It would have been perfectly legal to kill him in self defense, but not legal to kill him as punishment for his crimes. There needs to be a trial to decide he is guilty, and deserving of punishment.
Aldrich should be grateful to the people who disarmed him for not killing him. They were able to stop him from killing other people with very minimum injury to him.
Strangling someone to death to stop them from continuing to kill people is very proportional. Strangling them to death to avoid a trial is murder. I am surprised this is confusing to you.

Yes, I insist upon a proportionate response from police, militaries, and even citizens. That is the moral, and legal thing to insist upon. We can debate what exactly it is, but I am confused to why you are insisting on debating against it.
A proportionate response gets the most number of people due process as possible. Sometimes self defense is necessary, but it should not be unreasonably used. For instance, strangling a Black man because he laughed at being arrested for selling cigarettes is not reasonable. Killing a mass murderer committing murder, who has been offered a chance to surrender, is very reasonable.
