Residents of a small Alabama city, still reeling after deadly tornadoes devastated their corner of the state, said President Trump’s visit Thursday was “a godsend.” Trump then punctuated his trip to a Baptist church in Opelika, Ala., with another a religious overture, one that was distinctly on-brand: The president signed several of the churchgoers’ bibles.

President Trump is signing bibles for volunteers and survivors at a Baptist church in Alabama.

After adding his unique, frenetic signature to a 12-year-old boy’s Good Book, the crowd of onlookers erupted in applause, a pool report noted.
One church volunteer, Ada Ingram, told the reporters that Trump’s visit was a blessing. Hopefully, it brings the community together, she said.
“I enjoyed him coming,” Ingram said. “I think it’s a godsend.”

Another volunteer, Emily Pike, said the president and first Lady Melania Trump signed her 10-year-old daughter’s Bible, which was already decorated with pink camouflage.

“She just reached out there and said, ‘Mr. President, would you sign this?’ ” The Associated Press reported.
At the church, Trump addressed dozens of residents and victim’s families, and recounted some of the damage he saw there, days after one of the worst tornado outbreaks in recent years killed 23 people.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Trump said, according to the pool report.

In keeping with his vow to the state, Trump confirmed that officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are indeed doing an “A-plus job"
The crowd there praised Trump, who, in turn, told them, “We couldn’t get here fast enough. . . . We love the state of Alabama.”
But online, critics of the president quickly chided him for his impromptu book signing, an act usually reserved for the author or authors of the book in question.

“In Trump’s defense, he wrote as much of the Bible as ‘Art of The Deal,’ ” one commenter tweeted, referring to the first of more than a dozen books for which Trump has hired a ghostwriter.

Trump Back In Florida, Again Putting Republican Donor Money In His Own Pocket

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort likely to take in hundreds of thousands of dollars from GOP donors, profits from which directly benefit the president.

President Donald Trump has traveled to his for-profit resort in Palm Beach, Florida, this weekend, where he will participate in Republican fundraisers that will put hundreds of thousands of dollars into his own cash registers.
Trump’s Mar-a-Lago will host a dinner for six-figure donors to the Republican National Committee on Friday evening and a “low dollar” lunch on Sunday, tickets for which cost $2,800, the maximum contribution allowable to a federal candidate for the 2020 election.

“It’s the perfect storm of corruption,” said Robert Weissman, the president of the liberal watchdog group Public Citizen. “This big money fundraiser by the RNC is being held to pursue a corrupt corporate agenda at a property owned by the president of the United States, who is using the highest office in the land to enrich himself.”...

Where was your outrage when Obama refused to visit the flood victims in Louisiana? Instead, he decided to play golf. At least Trump took the time visit.

You would think they would scream sacrilege. It is customary to only have authors sign the books they wrote. This is a new one on me.

Where was your outrage when Obama refused to visit the flood victims in Louisiana? Instead, he decided to play golf. At least Trump took the time visit.
No thought on his autographing a Bible? Just Obama. So, can you imagine your outrage if Obama had autographed a Bible?

Santan as portrayed in literature is intelligent and clever, Trump is none of those things.

President Trump was intelligent enough to beat the smartest woman on the planet and send her home to bake cookies and rid her home of Bill's bimbos.

He's also a billionaire.

..take heed sinner:

— Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. “Why have you let all the women live?” he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD’s people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves. (Numbers 31:7)

I think it’s interesting he believes Hillary is the smartest woman on the planet.

I think it's funny you're all so incredibly angry he signed a little girl's bible...;)..at a church...when she asked him to...lol

Boy, you really suck at DETAILS don't you? I remember that! He was asked to stay away. (Remember he went to JERSEY after Sandy and people like you went batshit because he 'hugged' Christie). The airport authority, air traffic control, 'police, fire and rescue' types asked him to stay away because of the massive amounts of resources to divert when a president visits. Not all cities are alike, not all access to a disaster area is alike. And OBAMA would not go for a photo op if he was told, Mr. President--please don't.

He stayed on the island and went biking with his kids along with I'm SURE golfing.

Because you don't know shit, doesn't mean EVERYONE is that stupid. (Incidentally Sabato is a fairly 'conservative' professor, historian and commentator).

Obama did travel to New Jersey after Superstorm Sandy and hugged Republican Gov. Chris Christie in a sign of administration support just weeks before the 2012 presidential election.

According to Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center of Politics, Obama may be waiting for the water to recede, since his visit could affect rescue efforts.
"In Obama’s defense, he may be waiting for the water to recede and first responders to do their jobs. A presidential visit brings rescue efforts to a halt and complicates the overall effort logistically. Timing is critical" Sabato said.

PS This was about 10 days later... August 23

That's what I thought! I have a few signed books and they are all from the AUTHORS. I'm trying to think of any other exception to that rule?

But someone did. Why should you care?

So it's okay to sign a Bible? I'm not being pissy about this. It really is a question. I just thought it was NOT good form. Or Bible etiquette. I'd never heard of it till last night.

I reiterate when BUSH signed the American flags for the 'troops', I was shocked. I have no idea where I picked up flag etiquette but I knew that was a no no.
