Red Dawn

It was a great film when I was 22 years old, and I still like it.

But I am glad my taste matured into having an affinity for war films that are more morally ambiguous and realistic.

It's fun but a militant fantasy. If the Soviets invaded the US, Moscow would be nuked. The entire point of MAD is a deterrent, not to start the end of the world. It's why Iran wants nukes; to prevent invasion. If they used a nuke on Israel, Iran's major cities would cease to exist.

Then why did so many Russian Jews leave Russia? The white supremacist assholes are always bitching about how the Soviets were started by the Jews yet they never explain why so many Russian Jews fled the USSR.

For many years, Soviet Jews, like all other citizens of the USSR, had no real possibility to emigrate in sizeable numbers, but this changed in the 1970s. Based on collected data, it is estimated that almost two million Jews and their relatives have emigrated from the former Soviet Union since 1970. Most of this mass emigration occurred since 1989—about 1.7 million. Hence, the mass migration of Jews from the former Soviet Union has a history of about half a century. The dynamics of this emigration fluctuated, characterized by successive waves. The analysis clearly shows the decisive role of the “push factor” in the migration movements in the last three decades. Data shows pronounced selectivity of Jewish migration by age and sex. This emigration caused the size of the “core” Jewish population remaining in the former Soviet Union to dramatically shrink from 2,168,000 in 1970 to 1,480,000 in 1989, and to 248,000 by the beginning of 2019. At the same time, the emigration led to the resettlement of ex-Soviet Jews primarily in three destination countries—Israel, the United States, and Germany. The largest group went to Israel, and the positive demographic transformation of this group—a sizeable increase of fertility and fast decrease of mortality—occurred there. As a result of a half-century's mass migration, Russian-speaking Jews now are a worldwide phenomenon. Today, there are about 1.6 million “core” Jews worldwide who originated from the former Soviet Union.

Dude, you're the cocksucker. I'm straight.

But you'd let a dude suck your dick, amirite?

Bitch! You're about as straight as the faggots in "Str8 M for Hairy Bear Steamroom" on AOL.

I'm not into faggotry like you. I've had offers, I'm not letting a man touch my penis.

Sure as hell ain't touching anyone else's either. Or doing anything else faggoty.

A lot of people wanted to emigrate from the USSR, not just Jews. Because of the oppression of the Communist system.

Leon Trotsky was a Jew, and at one time the number two man in the Bolshevik revolution.

Even so, there was always some latent anti-semitism in the Russian Empire, as there was in much of Europe. Tsar Nicolas II was notoriously anti-semitic. Living in Israel was probably seen as a better option for some Jews than living in Russia, Germany, or Hungary.

France was right about Iraq, while you and George Bush were wrong about it.

Everyone was right about Iraq except the Bush Administration and their idiotic supporters. Even the gutless chickenshits in Congress who voted for it before they were against it.

Agreed on Russian antisemitism. Yes, both Christians and Jews were involved in the Russian Revolution. No doubt atheists too. Stalin wanted to stomp out all religion so that's not antisemitic, but the antisemitism was still in Russian culture.

People in predominantly English-speaking countries are half as likely to hold anti-Semitic views (13% Index Score) as the overall global population surveyed.

The Tsarist regime was much more actively anti-semitic than the Bolsheviks ever were.

Unfortunately in Russia, as in many European countries, there was a deep strain of anti-semitism in the culture at large.

A lot of European Jews emigrated to Israel after WW2, and not just from Russia. I assume that Israel was just a more desirable place for them, on balance.

The forgotten Jews of the Red Army
Israel’s WWII veterans begin to receive belated recognition

Once a year, Israel’s Jewish war veterans don suit jackets and uniforms dripping in Red Army medals, the shiny bronzes and silvers pinned to their chests in tight rows like armor.

About 500,000 Jews served in the Soviet Red Army during World War II. Most of those still alive today — about 7,000 — are said to live in Israel.

Every year on Victory Day, which falls on Thursday 9th May this year, they parade in uniform throughout Israel to celebrate Nazi Germany’s surrender to the Soviet Union.

Some of those who fought in the Red Army served in the highest levels of command. About 200,000 Soviet Jewish soldiers fell on the battlefield or into German captivity. Those who survived built families and careers in the Soviet Union, until the Communist regime collapsed and many of them ended up in Israel.

They formed a veterans’ association, opening 50 chapters across the country. Today, most of them are nearly 90 years old, but they gather regularly for lectures and concerts. Some sing in the 42 veterans’ choirs nationwide.
